Codebreaker is a Mastermind-type game where the object is to guess the color and position of all of the pegs. After posting your guess, the computer will tell you how many you got correct (right color & right location, black peg) and correct color but wrong position (white peg). Using logic you must deduce the correct sequence within the guess limit. This textmode version of the game is well done with simple controls and many options that you can set, including number of colors, length of sequence, timer, and thankfully sound on/off, among others. It seems that in 2002 the author updated his original game released in 1994 to make it freeware and possibly made other changes. Unfortunately the textmodegames.com advertised in the game is no longer available, but you can still visit textmodegames.com via the waybackmachine.
