Will the source codes work for the demo versions of these games doom and wolfenstein.

You can't just download the source codes and play the game, you'll need to compile them first.

BTW, unless released by the publisher, downloading a source code is the same as warez.

Well think about it, you're downloading a game you didn't pay for. Unless the source code has been released as freeware, which does happen, then it's the same as downloading a pre-compiled version of the game.

Yes, you can compile the source code of Doom and Wolfenstein 3-D such that it works with the data files of the shareware version of these games.

But I'm pretty sure if a game has not been released as open-source (such as Doom and Wolfenstein), having the source code is illegal anyway.

Indeed it is, because as mentioned you can compile the said code and you’ve got a game on your hands which you obviously didn’t pay for.

Having the source code of Doom and Wolfenstein 3-D is not illegal. Here's the license for the Wolfenstein 3-D source code and here's the license for the Doom source code.
