I have a 486 computer and My Cd-rom and Floppy drive is not working where can I get a 486 Cd-rom and 486 Floppy drive?

Had thou:

1. damaged 'em?
2. checked cables?
3. set up at BIOS?

I try them but I get get new Cd-rom and Floppy drive for Them anyways.

You can buy a new DVD/CD burner and floppy drive, just don't try to burn anything, and it can act like an old-fashioned CD-ROM drive.

That's the beauty of IDE, plenty of backwards/forwards compatibility. And the basic design of 3.5" floppy drives have never changed since the late 80s.

erm... why would he buy a DVD-RAM if he's not going to
a) burn anything
b) use it to read DVDs?

Because a DVD burner can read CDs, and since CD-ROM/CD burners are going obsolete (given that DVD burners have 4 purposes, burn DVD, burn CD, read DVD, read CD)

He doesn't need to burn anything or read DVDs. I just reckoned that DVD burners are "in style", since that's what most people would want/need, it's all about the economy.

Of course, if you can still find a normal CD drive get that instead.

I still don't see the point in being in style with a brand new DVD burner installed on a 486er... It's just a waste of money, nobody's gonna go to his house and say
"Oooh! Look at this crappy 486er... it doesn't even have a DVD-RAM"

The thing is, since CD-ROM/CDburner/DVD-ROM only drives are old, they are harder to buy.

Give it a few years and DVD burners might be the only thing you can buy in stores.

...... Right!......

But until then there's no point in spending more money on something that you won't fully use.

So Spacefans, go ahead and buy yourself a new CD-ROM
