Old war, strategy game...help

This is from someone on another gaming forum I frequent,
"What I do remember, is that this game predates Windows 95. I played it somewhere around 1992-93 on some kid's old PC. It was like 8 bit graphics, compariable to the original Nintendo system.
The general theme was you started off with a small army. Like five troops and a general. From there, you looked around the map and picked places to conquer. Take over castles, gain more armies. Armies were identified by color, orange, black, red, yellow, etc. I remember some guy who was black started up in the mountain range that seemed hard to penetrate. I think his name was Lord something now that I think of. Lord Bain or Lord Bright. If anyone has ever played Dragon Force for the Sega Saturn, it seems to have gotten inspiration from that game, very similar."
Any ideas?
