Db..not to start any fights, but why not chatspeak? I hate to say it, but most of teens (which is the majority on this board) use chatspeak more then regular english. I for one feel its used so much it is regular English..

I like standerd English better, what little I can speak, let alone spell correctly.

If you were reading a scientific journal would you appreciate it if the text was "written 2 lc like this?" I doubt it if you would. The reason for that is properly spelled and punctuated posts make a thread easier to read and quicker to understand. I hate having to spend forever trying to decipher the "AIM code" which seems so popular with people today and would prefer to read simple, strait English. (or Spanish, or French, or German for that matter)

The argument about you having to use it because you are a teen is irrelevant. All but two of our staff members here at the Dosgames Message board are teenagers.

Finally, this is not a live environment. Though I currently don't use it, I don't object to chatspeak in active places such as AIM and IRC where speed matters more than coherency. On the other hand, message boards, like Usenet and papers you write for school, grant you all the time in the world to write so there is no excuse for not doing so fluently and properly.

N e who, on the topic of "chatspeak". Do u mean like teh way i talk? The reason i talk like this is because its faster, and i used msn so much in the past im used to it now. if i take one of those typing tests, im up around 55 - 60 wpm. (may b faster, im not sure. Thats the stats of the one i took 2 years ago.)

It doesent get really annoying for me. Hell, I even used it once, until I started talking to people who have 1 third of a brain.

Chatspeak is *slower* then normal typing. It takes forever trying to figure out what kind of a "1337 (0D3" the writer is using and it breaks up the conversation. One I hate in particular is "N E 1" Nell? Knee one? Neo? (take the red pill, sir) What the heck is it supposed to mean? I still don't understand why people have such a hard time writing properly. You've been learning how to do so for 8 years now! Surely you can do it "bttre tehn tis!" My seven year old sister is more coherent!

I did. Ne1. Knee-one/Nell. Sounding it out does NOT produce anyone.

So, what's the point then? It's quicker to write anyone in the first place...

chatspeak isn't what you all say it is. I think Kazer understands it though. Sure on these forums I use regular English, I'm in Honors English so I sort of need practice sometimes. really if you chat enough people aren't that lazy. I have not met one person who uses the "1337"
