Sierra Games Fail To Save

I dont know if it is maybe just a problem with my PC or if other ppl are having the same problem...
When I am playing a Sierra game EG: Island of Doctor Brain and its sequal Castle of Doctor Brain or any other Sierra game ... When I try and SAVE, it will either freeze or it will close and give an error message.
This is VERY frustrating because it means you have to sit down and play the game to the end because you cant save and get up and do other things
I also notice that the sound doesnt work on any of the games
It will give an error message in the begining that it failed to initialize the audio hardware or something of the sort.
I would just like to know if it is just Sierra games which would be a pity or if it is just something with my PC.
