Yet another Duke Nukem 3D topic...

This is my first time on this board and was wondering if you guys could help me out. I done a search of similar topics, but I figured it would be more useful if I was specific to my own problems.

I too have had trouble getting Duke 3D to work on my computer. I don't have XP, but Windows 2000 Professional. I have been able to get the game working a few times, also without sound, but most of the time it crashes at the title screen. Now when I try to run the game I get a message that says:

E:\INST.EXE
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

I don't really know what to do and was wondering if you could help. I have heard of something called DosBox, which I assume helps run DOS games on new systems? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I hate it when people put "Duke Nukem" in the title of a topic, when they actually mean Duke Nukem 3D.
When I read Duke Nukem I hope it's about the great platformer Duke Nukem 1, but most of the time it's about Duke Nukem 3D.

Well I'll remember that next time.

What specifically do I download from that site you posted? I did download something from there a while back but couldn't get it to work because of that error message I posted above. I can't do anything dos related because of that message.

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.
I had this problem as well, although i fixed it :P, it's pretty self explanatary i think.....Anyway the file "autoexec.nt" is the file that runs dos programs, or something, but anyway, sometimes it gets deleted because of a virus or something. Just do a search on Your computer for "autoexec.nt" because there is usually a bakup of it, try looking for C:/Backup
