Wow, there seems to be a spike in female members here... they usually don't last more than 2 or 3 weeks. (Gamer, Check_Mate, Ally, and Jean being some of our longest running females) This can mean one of two things:

A. Our forum membership is getting more mature and cultured.
B. More desperate guys pretending to be women online than usual.

Not sure to take that as a compliment or insult.

IRL, most people think of me as funny, but my humor comes from the spur of the moment + body movements and facial expressions - I end up sounding very dry and dull on message boards. I wasn't really thinking when I read that... maybe that's what made it sound funny to you? I should try not thinking more often... if only to see how many weeks I can pull it off without losing my position here.

Nowadays many people get killed through natural disasters or made-made violence. In some places there are still fighting.

Dogbreath, over where you live are there many girls that like computer games? In a few forums there always seem to be discussion on girl vs guy gamers and it always seem that in the area of gaming females take up only a small proportion. Probably in different areas of interest or occupation, some tend to have more males and some more females.

Just curious, Dogbreath, what happens if I told you that I am a female.

Would you faint from shock.

A handful. There's this one girl, about 16 I think, that's always over at my neighbor's house playing video games with him for hours and hours... sitting in front of the TV alone together...

Well, at least they say they're playing video games, and I can usually hear the sound of the games going on. (I hang out with his sister a lot, though I almost never see him)

And at my church's halo tourny (they get together once a week) there seems to be a good deal of girl gamers. The problem with computer games is that usually, girls use computers for e-mail, IMs, photo editing, etc. Girls, at least teenage girls, seem to be a lot more socially dependent than guys and don't really play video games alone.

I've found plenty of older women that are into computer gaming, though. My mom being one of them... the reason there aren't more is that a lot of women over 40 don't take the time to learn the computer skills needed if they don't have them. My mom grew up and lived through the computer revolution, though, so she knows just as much (if not more) about DOS than I do.

The reference to Mr. Worm doesn't really have to do with girls who are into computer games in my area... just from experience and the fact that he lives in my area.

Actually, I was chuckling

That's quite true to some extent. Over at my place, there are girls gamers but very few. My younger girl cousin plays computer games but less nowadays. She likes shooting and RPG like her brother. My sister and her husband plays too but less nowadays. Some of my friends only play flash games / short games like tetris. They are not exactly interested in games. They play these once in a while to pass time. As for e-mail, it is a medium more widely used instead of the traditional "snail mail". It is used by both young and old, females and males. Actually gaming can be considered like a hobby. Most girls have found activities that they prefer doing such as shopping. They no longer like computer games that they use to like as kids.

As for myself, nowaday, because of lack of time, the games that I play would be those that have many short levels. That way I don't have to play games halfway. Sometimes, I take out those old dos games and play them again. Funny how I can play the same entire game that I like many times over but yet at the same never complete certain games.

There aren't even enough gamers in my area. Lotsa people play hyped up games like NFSU, but they don't know shit about games.

'They' say girls (or woman) like to play games they can just play 1-2-3 without hustle and stuff. Don't ask me who 'they' are.

I grew up on DOS and am just revisiting it now that my kids are out of babyhood. It seems to me that there was a lot more variety in genres back then so it attracted a more diverse crowd. I know that's why I've sort of abandoned the idea of building a new gaming machine and gone backwards. I like FPS's and RTS but not to the exclusion of everything else.

But, I do have to say, it's not that women over 40 don't take the time, I'd guess it's that they don't feel they have the time. They've got kids, jobs, volunteering...This might spark some debate but I really don't thnk women have the same amount of leisure time that men do (though I'm not going to blame anyone for that). Me, I'm a stay-at-home mom and can work my interest in computers into my kids' homeschooling (time for a map reading lesson Catherine, let's play Might and Magic!
