Bricks Gold

I'm working with windows XP and I'm trying to get a game called "Bricks Gold" to work. I got it off the "100+ Great Games" CD.

Anywho - I did everything on the first page, including copying the two .nt files. After I had everything set up, I clicked on my game and it told me that the files don't work with the game. So, I took them out, and I'm getting the same error message.

Can anyone help me?

Hi,

Could you post the exact error message that you're receiving? Does it involve the .nt files, or something else? That may help us to diagnose your game's problem.

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

C:\DOCUME~1\Public\STARTM~1\Programs\BRICKS~1.pif
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose ‘Close’ to terminate the application.

As Cakephatt suggested, DOSBox (a DOS simulator made for Windows that runs many DOS games perfectly) may be an option. However there is a program that I found recently that is supposed to specifically fix the "missing xxxxx.nt" problem:

http://www.visualtour.com/downloads/

(Second one on the list, "XP_FIX.EXE")

I have never tried this program, so I don't know how well it works. But it sounds like it does what you need, so it's probably worth trying. Please let us know if it works so we'll know whether to recommend it to others :) Thanks, hope this helps!

A friend of mine experienced a problem like this when I tried to send him a game I had made. This seems to fully explain what is going on:
