i just upgraded my old pentium 1 from a windows 95 to 98se. I immediatly installed kings quest V (possibly my favorite game ever) and was dissapointed to see that the message "unable to initate audio hardware" came up. i did not have this problem with windows 95. i tried to install that gosierrav2 patch, but it didnt work. maybe i didnt do it right. any suggestions? btw, this audio doesnt work on any sierra games i installed. Thanks

i'm not sure anymore about this,but don't siera games have a setsound or setmain executable?

So you find your settings:
start-> settings -> contol panel ->system -> device manager ->
look for sound,video and games controllers ->
look for tab "resources"
there you find interrupt request (IRQ) and others.DON'T alter them if your system sounds are working!Just write them down and exit by hitting the <cancel> tab.
it will give you the info needed to configure your dos games(irq-dma)
usual the irq is 5,dma channel 1,but sometimes can be irq 7.
If the IRQ is set above 7 you will prob need to change it on your sndcard's
settings by alter a jumper setting.Most dosgames will not go above irq 7.

EDIT
forgot this one:
look on the web at : http://www.lavalys.com/
look for everest home (it's freeware) and download it,install it and it will give you full info on all your system's hardware, settings and performances.Also included a mem/sys benchmark.

Disk or not ?
If the drivers on the disk you got with the sb16 are win98se suitable (look for a readme on the disk) use these.If not you will still prob' have to use the disk to install and initiate the card on w98se and then upgrade the drivers with the one you'll find at dosdrivercom.
I don't believe that sb16 upgrade'drivers will install without a first disk install on your pc,but you always can try.
Good luck with it.
