sorry..probably a stupid question, but is it possible to run the incredible machine 3 on the windows xp,

Incredible Machine 3 is a Windows game so Dosbox is useless, unless you install Windows in Dosbox and then try to run Incredible Machine 3. But I think that will be really slow.

Hope you're still reading this thread. I didn't have time to test it till the weekend.

The Incredible Machine 3 works perfectly on a Windows XP. I have tested tested all Windows versions games in the Incredible Machine series and they work fine on a Windows XP. They also work with earlier versions fo Windows. Very good and clear music with voice narration and sound effects and very nice graphics. For Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions & Return of the Incredible Machine: Contraptions, it also has the modern 3D kind of graphics look and the professor's voice sounds like that of Inspector Gadget. The speed, sound and graphics are perfectly normal. If you happen to experience problems with these areas, then it will be due to your computer speed, sound card or graphics card or the setting for them and not due to the computer being a Windows XP.

I like puzzles so I bought the entire collection of the Incredible Machine series. However, I don't have the time to play them. I still like The Incredible Toon Machine & Sid & Al's Incredible Toons Incredible Machine because of the light humour and cute cartoony graphics. Some people may not like it because they may find that it is not as challenging as the others in the series.

For those dos versions in the series, I have only tried them on a Windows 95. Didn't have time to test and trouble-shoot it for Windows XP. I may try them out if someone have trouble with them.

So far, for The Incredible Machine itself, if you want to run it under Windows XP, use Dosbox and set the cycles to "10,0000". Then it will work fine. On the other hand, Incredible Machine 2 is not as simple to make run in a Windows XP.

That was me who posted the long post above. Funny thing about this forum is that sometimes when using "back" from internet explorer and go into another thread, one sometimes gets logged out.

Anyway back to your question. No, I'm not selling my contraptions CD-ROMs, haven't finish playing them yet. Anyway I bought The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions & Return of the Incredible Machine: Contraptions as a package. You know like best-sellers re-release with no cardboard box, only the plastic transparent CD box with CD-ROM and manual inside. This one's 2 boxes packed together. Got it from my bookstore (that was selling multimedia stuff) for at a special offer of $20 (coverted amount is about US$11-US$12). Last time I saw there were 2 sets left.

If you mean physical store, I do not know as I do not live in UK. I would have to ask a friend who lives in UK whether he knows. If he does, then I'll post again to let you know. The Contraption series have been around for quite a while so I'm not sure whether the stores over your place have already finish clearing their old stocks to make way for newer games.

I downloaded The Incredible machine 3 on my computer (windows xp) from underdogs. When I opened up the setup to install it, I got this message, "This system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Then I click close and the whole program shuts down. What else can I do to make this game work?

Allright,seems to be some people confused here,so here we go:

The incredible machine 3 is a WINDOWS prog,native W95,if your computer runs on W95/W98 :no problem may occur,if there is a problem,it's your pc.I have try'd it on win98SE AND XP,it's running FINE and SMOOTLY.In heaven's name read the tdujam.nfo file!!!!!

FOR XP USERS:(and the install part for W9X)
1)Unzip the whole bunch to a "X:\whatever" dir,X:\TIM3(?)be sure to select ALL FILES in your unzipper.(the X is the drive you want)
2)If you want you can burn all the files to a cdr and run it from there,but the easy way is to let the X:\TIM3 dir on your HD.
3)Look for setup.exe in TIM3,run it,it will ask for a hardware test-->>NO.
you get a warning:DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE INSTALL?-->>YES
next:LARGE OR SMALL INSTALL?-->>choose SMALL
next: files in c:sierra\TIMWIN?-->>here you can choose the drive to install
next : is this ok?-->>YES
next: REGISTER?-->>NO
next:SIERRA ONLINE?-->>Exit

W9X users have done with it,just run it from start->sierra->TIM
you get a warning fot the 256 colors if your monitor is running higher res,just hit OKAY,the game runs fine on true color 32,(on my pc 19" mon)

For XP users only:
Go to your unzip dir X:\TIM3 (NOT the sierra install dir!!!!!) and
subdir TIMWIN, so: X:\TIM3\TIMWIN
look for TIMWIN.EXE,rightclick on it-->properties-->>set compability to windows 95,set 256 colors, and <APPLY>

So you done ,go to start-->sierra-->tim.
For the 256COLOR warning see above.

There are some more things you can change yourself but i think reading your posts you better stick to the usual install.

I have the original CD Rom for TIM 3 but when I try to install with windows xp I get integer divide by 0 during setup process and install shuts down. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That doesn't sound good at all.

Divide by zero? No, something is wrong there.
Better download it from Hotu's.

If you want you can burn the hotu version on a CD, and install it from the CD, works fine on my pc.
After install set comp to W95,256 colors.
Or else look at the first pag, explanation is there.

YES there was an operating system called DOS(still is, mind you, it's just obsolete) that functioned on PCs.
YES it was related to Sid and Al's Incredible Tunes because Sid and Al's Incredible Tunes was a DOS game, as in, it required DOS to function.
