It was a great game that I played every lvl too accept the last and never beat the last lvl as a little kid back in 1996 because my father took it off the computer thinking I wouldn't care.

Right now I found the disc and want to start playing again and maybe even beat it

SO I NEED to find out how to get it to work perfect on windows xp.
I tryed Vdm sound but I keep geting lag in the music. and the whole game.

IF this helps my machine is a Athlon xp 1600+, 896mb drr pc 2100 ram
Asus A7v233 or is it A7v266 mother board, 256mb ddr ati radeon 9550, Sound blaster Platinum 24bit, and Maxtor Ultra series 80gb 7200rpm hard drive

Search for a Heretic source port for Windows XP.

With this PC, you should get jHeretic (part of the Doomsday engine). Look at www.doomsdayhq.com . This will give you perfect XP play and lots of eye candy, if you like it (but you can disable most of it if you don't).
