Help! Editting config.nt and autoexec.nt??

I just recently downloaded some games that must be run in Dos. I am running Windows XP and have found some instructions that may help me to run these programs that I have. I am stumped on editting the config.nt and autoexec.nt. 
Where do go to do this....Do I have to be in Dos mode to edit?? (If so what's the scripting I need to enter to have access to editting them) Thanks [email protected]
