Help find space game

I am trying to find a game that is kinda like elite but it is not. You are a ship which you can choose, then you start out across the map which is blacked out untill you goto it, you goto plannets and mine and that type of thing, there is also an enemy. The game is black playing field with different coloured planets, and a gray side bar. if anyone knows what i am talk about plz email me.
P.S it also was on one of those top dos games disc

Master of Orion - great game.

if its not - try Space Empires. But Im pretty sure its master of orion 1.
