Master Of Orion (1) not working on XP after upgrading to sp2

I have not been able to get MOO to run since upgrading to sp2 on windows xp. I have tried all the suggested steps to the best of my ability but can not get around the following error when trying to launch the program:
"You must have at least 1024K of expanded memory."
I would really appreciate any help. I'd rather not have to use DOSbox so if anyone has a configuration change that will get it to work, PLEASE help.
Thanks in advance.

I tried running the install.exe file again and got the following:
"EMS DRIVER WARNING!
Your system does not have an EMS Driver installed.
MASTER OF ORION requires an EMS driver in order to run properly.
COnsult the Technical Requirements page in your manual for more information."

moo2 had similar problem. reason was the new dosx.exe in sp2.
for moo2 we had the following sp2 patch:
http://www.gameboard.cc/vB/showpost.php ... ostcount=1
check bat file for details there.

I tried that as best I could but was still not able to get the game to work. Can anyone provide further support? Please and thank-you.

Hi aqua,
That error message means that DOS mode EMS/DPMI driver is not loaded or maybe corrupted.
Verify that dosx.exe is listed in your autoexec.nt file (typically in c:\windows\system32\ folder). If it is not, that would explain why. You need to add it.
Also, check the properties of orion2.exe on the memory tab. Make sure that XMS is set at 16384 and DPMI is set at 16384. Don't leave them on auto. The game has some troubles with computers that have more than 512Meg RAM.

Thanks for the info Lord Brazen, but make sure you check the date of the last post in a thread before replying. This is quite an old thread and aqua is likely long gone.
