I remember that there is a PC game which is similar to Mario cart. All characters are the animals.

That game was called Wacky Wheels.

or it could be skunny karts as there are many alternatives
Skunny karts has beetles, crocodiles etc..

Speaking of Wacky Wheels, that game had its 10th birthday on 17 October 2004.
