Doom 2

I'm having problems trying to run doom2. There is no sound in the game.
(I don't want any enchanted source ports, I just want to get the DOS version working perfectly!)

Here are my specs:
Pentium 200MHZ processor
SoundBlaster 16 ISA (non plug and play)
130,548 KB RAM
Windows 2000 Professional

I have looked in my AUTOEXEC.BAT file, here is everything I saw in the file...

SET SOUND=C:\PROGRA~1\Creative\CTSND
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6

It is strange it is not working with DOS games...
This card was made in the year 1994.
And the model is: CT2290
And here is what I typed before starting Doom 2:
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6

And when I started the game, no sound.
Do I need any sound card drivers or what do I need to do about this?
PS: I do not want VDMsound or SoundFX2000! The sound problem occurs with all the other DOS games!

Does sound work at all for the machine? Like Windows sounds, etc...
You can also try a program called ZDoom that runs on modern systems and keeps the traditional Doom style.

I would guess you want the great original gameplay, but if you want to try something advanced, JDoom makes Doom look like a modern game.

Well, the sound does work on Windows. But when I try to play Doom2 or any other DOS game, there is no sound. Besides I like the completely original style Doom2, (no ports, nothing. Just pure.) I might need to install drivers for this card. Besides, this is a old card compatible with DOS, (non Plug and Play) there has to be a way to work that thing in DOS without VDMS or ports. I don't use VDMS in the game because there is stuttering sound in the game, and there are slowdowns. But with the card itself (no emulators) the game will have nice sound, and no slowdowns.
Do I need to dual boot with DOS or a previous version of Windows to get sound? I do not want to use Doom 95 because, when I shoot the demons, other enemies, there is low pitch sound. Is there a way to solve this problem without ports or enchantments?

Is there a solution to this problem?

THIS IS NOT A JOKE! I really need help! Nobody in my home can help me, I tried getting my dad's help, but he is useless, I tried finding out if my freind can help, other things I tried, now this is my only source, sadly.

Now, I'm trying to install PC DOS 6.3.

But I have a problem installing PC DOS 6.3.
The error is: "PC DOS 6.3 files cannot be installed on your harddisk because all the primary partion table entries on your disk are already in use."
Is there anything to do about this?

Guess what, DOSBoX runs SO SLOW on my Pentium and on my newest computer, that I will forget about the emulator and try alternatives.

Processor speed old computer: Pentium 200 MHZ

Procesor speed newest computer: Celeron 2.40 GHZ

But, even Doom 2 will run slow on my newest computer. That is why I'm fiddling around with PC DOS 6.3.

Don't want VDMSound? Well, then you're stuck. You're not gonna get sound in DOS games under Win2K without it. You could put whatever you want in Autoexec, Win2K ignores it anyway. VDMSound won't work properly with DOOM, as you noticed yourself, but it would work with many other games.

The problem with sound is not the incompatiblity of the sound card, but the limitation Win2K places on direct hardware access for DOS apps.

Your best bet seems to be getting PrBOOM, which is a Windows port preserving the original style of gameplay. Look it up.

Installing an alternative OS is also possible, I'd suggest Win98. I'm not sure it will be simple, though, because Win2K is already installed. You may need to take advantage of a third party tool, like PartitionMagic/BootMagic.

Besides, I give up on Win 2k. Now I'm looking for Windows 95 or 3.1 for a cheap price. I do have NT, But I'm not sure about using NT. All I want is to get DOS games to work PERFECTLY.

Ok.. well I'm not sure about win2K or any others but for winXP there exists an [autoexec.nt] file in the [system32] folder. This is called whenever a DOS program is loaded.

I'd imagine win2K or NT might have somethig similar. my autoexec.nt also included info for the sound config settings. hopefully, so will yours.

A few days ago, this problem got resolved.
I installed PC DOS 6.3, then I got the SoundBlaster 16 drivers for DOS and I installed Win 2000, and now my games work with sound!!!
Well, there is no more emulators, no more Cli2nop :) , no more stutters :) , no problems since I have REAL DOS and real sound, not emulated. I can dual-boot now  . I already had a 3rd party partition manager already before I started to solve this problem  .
Anyway, thanks for your help!
