problem with dosbox

Hallo,
Someone adviced me here to download Dosbox which was a very good Idea because I can now start the game and also my Keysbord and mouse work fine but the games work very, very slowly, nearly unplayale. The FAQ from the Dosbox website couldn't help me, so I hope you can.
The games are running like if you would run a new game from today on an old PC from 5 years.
My PC is a Pentium 4 3.4 ht ghz., Windows XP Professional, 1024 mb ram and a Ati Radeon 9700 with 128 mb ddr ram.
So normally dos has to run a bit faster.

While running DOSBox, press Ctrl-F12 again and again until the game is fast enough.
