Name of old racing game?????

im looking for the name of a racing game i played when i was probably six or eight.
in the beggining of the game there was a big white blimp and there was a dr. or professor something. you would go through the levels (2D) and jump over obstacles and robot blobs or something to collect parts for your race car. You could interchange the parts on the car to make it faster. You had a red or green hat on backwards i think. you would build your car in the garage and put decals on and the more races you won against the profeeosr, the more trophies you got. the track was a simple oval and you might have raced agaisnt three other cars or only two i cant remmeber. anyway, you didnt control the car, it jsut went as fast as you built it. I can't rember if there were puzzles involve or not but this was a great game.
I jsut remembered that your ammo was bannanas that you would throw at these robot, maybe monkey blobs.
