Magic Carpet is giving me crap

Post by Thunderdog »

I've posted this in several diffirent forums, and only get either useless comments, or no replies whatsoever.
Alright, back to my problem.

When I do basically anything while Playing MC (excluding moving and shooting) it randomly exits the program for no reason. I get no error messages, or anything. It just quits. It only does it when I:
Go to the Spells/Map screen
Switch Spells using the # keys
Or use the 'I' (chat) key

Hep me, or ye shall be struck down by the AblinScroggy of Death.

Magic Carpet was a revolutionary game that "pushed the envelope". I never found it to be very stable myself but you seem to have more problems than you ought.

What OS and what graphics card?

I use Win 98, and I have a SiS Graphics card (I think) I've tried it on other comps, and it does the same. Even in Pure DOS, it still does that.

Then, it obviously is a corrupted file. If it happens on other comps, then that must be it.

MC Hammer it to bits

Post by procerus »

ThunderDog. Apart from one tiny frustrating reference on one Magic Carpet site ("If your game crashes, get the fix.") I can find nothing, nada, nil out there in the way of patches, fixes or files.

Can I ask something? Since the game only crashes when you press certain keys on the keyboard can you think very carefully about whether any other utility, driver or program is hooking the keyboard?

Try pressing Ctrl>Alt>Del once to bring up the Taskmanager and gently and slowly persuade everything else to close except Explorer and Systray. Then run the game. Does it still crash?

BTW I enjoyed the game myself. :D

That's great, TD. And you can surely get the sound working with a bit of tweaking.

Hey, i am having problems with the game myself, my friend says it is unfixable without emulator, but i think he is wrong. My problem is that everything moves at like 50 times the speed it is supposed to, and the audio is gone. As well as random times where i launch it and it turns random colors. Help wuld b VERY nice.
