Like I said, it's about freedom of speech. This nation was founded by a bunch of dudes who believed freedom was worth dying for and wrote the Bill of Rights to prevent people like you from controlling the voice of the people.

Once "offensive" music is banned, the government might as well give us all brain-control chips to prevent violence and problems. You should read Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and 1984 by George Orwell.

Besides, rap isn't the only genre of music tht contains "offensive" lyrics, even the Beatles were considered offensive for their time. The music industry already puts a warning label on some of their offensive CDs to prevent sensitive people like you from being offended and throwing a hissy fit.

The only real reason why music with foul language is so popular is because people buy it, JMS. Once the "shock effect" of music that largely relies on obscenity for its sales wears off, most of the current whiny white boys who can't sing crap (i.e., Eminem) will go bankrupt as they will no longer possess the talent to sell their CDs. So is the glory of an open market system.

No offense to you personally, but some parts of that last post of yours truly scared me. Obscenity, foulness, and perversion have always existed, but they have absolutely no effect on people as individuals unless we chose to accept it. Having the government censor such things is the very last thing we need. If the government can censor freedom of speech via rap artists and people with "too extreme viewpoints," who's next? Churches, political protests, or even people who think differently than the way the current ruling party does? IMO, socialists like you (or some neo-cons, or whoever. Political party doesn't matter as much as the fact that they wish to eliminate freedom of speech) are contributing far more to the destruction of our society than a few whiney rappers ever could.

It also means that you can't purchase it if you're under the age of 18 without parental consent. (IIRC) IMO, parents are far better judges of what is and isn't appropriate for their children to hear than the government.

I can happily buy any CD I wish and no one stops me. Half the CDs I own don't have any warning label on them, and if you'd listen to alexisonfire, you'd see that it's odd that they don't.

Next to country and christian music, rap is about the most horrible music you can get your hands on.
I had to listen to about 6 hours worth two days ago when visiting one of my friends down in Fremantle, and the headache I got still hasn't worn off.
I'm not in the best mood about it either.

Every time I hear rap, It's like I've been punched in the face, and naturally, I'm looking around for someone to punch back: but all I've got is the radio (or whatever other medium is causing this sensation).

It's just my personal opinion.. but I truly beleive we can live without rap.

I like rap, and I like about a quarter of everything Eminem comes out with. 'Lose Yourself' was plain awesome.

I agree, though, that shock-rap (meaning the other 3/4 of Eminem's stuff, and the like) should just drop dead.

I also like Outkast and Black Eyed Peas, because, in my opinion, they're talented. Their subject matter sucks, though.

Rap to my opinion it is just a bunch of spit language from the artist(s) to prove a point that poverty and welfare isn't a good thing to be on, especially when you fuck up!!
