Some of you may have heard of and/or played a German freeware first-person adventure game called Desperabis. The game, which came out in 1999-2000 for DOS, is remarkable for its custom-built true 3D engine that author Florian Born wrote from scratch. Desperabis looks really good for a freeware game and could have easily been a commercial or at least shareware title, had it appeared some five years earlier.
In January this year, Florian Born unexpectedly showed up at the RGB Classic Games forums to announce the English translation of the game. Apparently, the source code was lost and he had to reverse-engineer the binary executable and the data files to implement the translation.
