I'm 90% sure I played the game on my Commodore 64 in the 80'ies but my memory is not what is used to be. It could be a DOS game from the 90'ies.
You control a robot that can engage with other robots in a minigame for control of their robot. You win you take over the other robot and can no longer control the previous robot.
The minigame:

your side: left
Opponent: right.
You now have ca. 3-10 "Tokens/clicks" depending on your robot.
you can click on one of your nodes (on the left) which triggers the "token" to move to the middle node and make it yours, unless the opponent send one from his node. somehow at some point the game is decided and you can hopefully take control of the other robot and go on to take over even better robots.

I know it's not much to go but hope goes a along way.

Not sure; here is a list of games with hacking as a theme: https://www.mobygames.com/group/2730/th ... dohacking/

One game in the list for C64 is e.g. Max Headroom

Looks like a cool game, thanks for the update!

Obligatory Mobygames link: Paradroid

There was a bunch of games in the series, and the last was a freeware remake for Windows, Quazatron.
