Medieval power growing rpg thingy

Hello my fellow gamers. Me and my brother played a game over 20 years ago. I have been googling for many years trying to find it. Unfortunately my memory is not that good due to us being very little back the.
So what I remember is that you are a "person" and playing against the other player. You can buy art and marry and assassinate the other's wife and there was a tournament where you're on a horse and trying to lance the other person out of it.
The game was more or less a map where you can click things to have your actions.
You were able to make fests and feasts and got random rewards and that's almost all I can remember.
My brother and me called it "Anno something" because that word burned into our brains .. but I am sure it's "anno" as in "year", not the name of the game.
I am very grateful for every tip or even the name.
Thanks!

You did not mention the platform but there is this group of games, mainly for Windows:
https://www.mobygames.com/game-group/anno-ad-series
Otherwise I think your description also has some likeness to
Defender of the Crown

Okay, so .. definitely not Anno. It wasn't a "city" builder.
Defender of the Crown looks like an upgrade to it .. the memories I have were all 2D .. but damn, thank you very much!

There's an obscure German RPG called
1483 Anno Domini, but I've not played it a lot so I cannot tell if it has all the features which you mention.
I found the shareware version on a magazine CD and uploaded it here:
annodom.zip
There's also another DOS German game called
Lehnsherren -- I've not played this one at all but IIRC it has at least some of the features (like marrying someone and I think tournaments as well). There's very little info about it at all, but it's mentioned
here (in German) alongside the aforementioned
Anno Domini.

I feel as if you're very very close to that ... my brother and I are born and raised in Austria ... so having an obscure German game would fit the bill ... I can't make Anno Domini run sadly .. but it seems as it's not in the images I can find googling the name.
The most memorable thing in that game was collecting art (pictures) and assasinating the wife of the other player and him getting a "better" one that made him even richer and such ... it was a very simple game without war and troops .. at least not in my memory.
But I appreciate every answer .. thank you all so so much!

Maybe one of the
Carcassonne license games?
The game style seem more like a city builder though.

Unfortunately no, the closest so far has been "Defender of the Crown", but I'm afraid that the game I try to find is 100times simpler and neither me nor my brother remember any form of conquering / army building / fighting. But yet again .. we've been very young and can only remember
a) Marrying and randomly getting rich or not, laughing at each other when the marriage made us por
b) Buying art (pictures) that are between nothing and rich
c) A 2D 1v1 knight minigame where we tried to push each other off the horse, or something like that .. we never understood it .. most of the time nobody won.
d) Assassinating the wife of the other one
e) (not sure if I'm making that up now .. or if really was part of it, but) making feasts that cost x and can make some money in return or nothing
All in a very simple 2D with mainly text
