Sorry my memory is hazy on this - to the point I don't know if I dreamed this! I remember playing on my older brothers PC in late 90s/early 2000s.

The protagonist was an agent or something and travelled the world talking to people to figure out whatever he was trying to figure out. I remember being in Paris and having to make something out of plaster like a key or something. I remember a food seller yelling at me "you buy kebab!". Towards the end of the game if you made a wrong move you were shot off a cliff when you tried to shake another mans hand. All vague memories but I'm hoping this clicks for someone out there!

I can only think of one of the Broken Sword games, but there are many games taking place in Paris.

Your description makes it sound like an adventure type game; or possibly a covert agent - maybe in a war setting?

'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego'? is probably too early.

It's definitely the first Broken Sword game - Circle of Blood.

It had:
  • making key out of plaster;
  • character yelling "kebabs"; and
  • getting pushed off a cliff when shaking character's hand.
