i've installed spybot s&d and when i go to this site a message says that the spyware "avenue a" try to install. WHATS THAT! I hate spyware and theres one ine my favorite site! please explain me

well if you click yes to any pop up windows pretty much you will get spyware

Actually, one new dirty trick they're using is that while you always have the chance to say yes or no, they can control whatever the d/l message *says.* For example, they give you a window saying something like: Spybot3000 has detected that this site is trying to transfer spyware to your system. Do you want to BLOCK this download? (Yes/no) And obviously some poor sucker is going to think it's actually a built in browser spyware blocker and click "yes." Firstly make sure it isn't one of those scams and secondly: if you can simply set you spyware blocker to auto block any spyware messages so you can view that site without being spied on. (This isn't always possible because some sites make you download their garbage if you want to access it. I find this is usually only true of porno and warez sites... *ahem*)

ok but whats its that "avenue a"? what do it does? and WHAT THE HELL IS DOING THAT SPYWARE ON THE SITE (i have a pop-up blocker)

Easy there tiger. A Avenue is a Tracking Cookie. It basically just moniters the sites you visit. It's nothing to sweat over. Just delete the cookie every time you visit the site if it means that much to you. Also: Remember to frequently update Spybot, to go into RECOVER and delete any back-ups, and to click IMMUNIZE and make sure everything is blocked and installed.

Sorry, I thought when you said "this site" you were referring to a random site in question that you visit-not dosgames.com. (This forum is shared between 3 sites) Anyhow, as Wardrich said, there is no spyware on this site. If you're a member on the boards you'll get some log-in related cookies. As far as I know-dosgames.com has *no* spyware whatsoever and if the cookies are really bothering you so much then just change the security levels in i.e,... sheesh.

instead of using spybot s+d, use lavasoft ad-aware.

but, if you want even more security, use Hijack This (google for it.) its the best app used by technicians to find spyware.

Just for the record, there is no spyware on this site None of the advertisers I use would ever have spyware-related ads.

Plus ... another benefit to downloading and playing DOS games: No worries about them having spyware like many popular Windows games do

dnirex, HijackThis is ok to my standards but I still prefer Ad-aware 6 Pro.

I also use Ad-Aware but will give Hijack a try. Maybe use both.

I've run both, one right after the other (but obviously didn't delete the records) I only did it once, but SpyBot found about 4 more instances than Ad-Aware. Plus, Spybot is 100% free, and is updated almost weekly. It's more tweakable than Ad-Aware, it's skinable (sarcastic 'whoopie').
