Hey qmonkey, you could use many things. However the most stable that I've seen so far is DOSBox 0.74

There are many versions of DOSBox 0.74 however you should download the one for Windows

Just get the WindowsInstaller file

There is a section on this forum that tells you how to use it

Before running DOSBox please make a directory in the C:\ directory

You can name it marbles or remake or something you remember 8 letters or less

Please put your DEMO and unpack the file in there

Then you run DOSBox 0.74 and at the beginning prompt please type:

mount c c:\marbles

Or whatever the directory you created

After that type:

c:
Xenonv3

Here in this version is a handful of updates.

Mostly, it is half compressing the codes and half adding the second marble.

So now you may control the left marble or the right marble.

Hey tien! I followed your instructions and I see the intro screen (with the keys and everything) but when I press a key to enter the game the screens stays black with two zero's on the bottom. I've tried waiting but it stays the same after 10 minutes.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hey qmonkey,

In the latest zipped file there are updates.

The reason the screen is black is most likely it could not find the images.

You might have to see if you can put the images manually into the directory.

You are doing everything right so far.

Just check to make sure the following files are in the directory too:

1.bmp
2.bmp
3.bmp
4.bmp
5.bmp
6.bmp
7.bmp
8.bmp
9.bmp
10.bmp
11.bmp
12.bmp

You also need the main game:

XenonV3.exe

If you intend to be a programmer you also need the source:

XenonV3.C

I checked out the latest version. With the exception of the game being very fast on high DOSBox cycles, there's all functionality for a game to be further developed

One thing though, while the "main" sprites do not flicker, the green digits at the bottom that indicate the score do, even if they do not change.

Hmmm, I have everything you listed in the folder but I still get the black screen...DOSBox is compatible with Windows 7 64b, right?

Try updating your xenonv3.exe with this one and running it:

Remember, after you press a key it will load the images 1.bmp all the way to 12.bmp then it should display. You should see the images loading as it goes.

If you see the two green zeroes at the bottom that means you see the scores of each side.

So I might have done something wrong in the older version.

If you see the two green zeroes at the bottom of the screen then DOSBox 0.74 should be compatible with your system!

I see the 2 green zeros (they are not flickering now) but the screen stays black. I did everything you wrote (again). What am i missing?

O-well, I tried. I really did. I know on my old Vista that I had to install the video card software. I don't know about Windows 7. I never tested my software on Windows 7 so it might NOT be compatible with that system. In that case, I'm sorry about that. I feel your frustration because I am truly frustrated trying to help the best I can. I have run out of options.

I guess we are not going to get any version of the game working maybe? I'm sorry. I've given up.

Thank you for your encouragements. I guess I want everyone to be happy. It makes me sad if I made someone unhappy. Even when we get into fights we always make up and just let it go.

I have a view of what I want in the remake however it may be far different from your original play. The reason I do that is because I don't like to be sued for copyright infringements. Therefore, I always try to give credits where possible. Sometimes I get ahead of myself and get excited and forget that many people went into a project.

Being the ego centric person that I am I always think in terms of myself. However remember when I first started that I did try to give you the original disc which I did burn. Unfortunately it turns out that version didn't have it.

In fact, I got into trouble when I saw the psychiatrist for doing that. He said it was okay however he is making it 9 weeks before the next session instead of the usual 12 weeks. So I get more frequent checks. He also was disappointed in me and I had to get a random drug test. So as you can see - I did break my back for you. I lost 8 years of what I had accumulated in good reputation. It did set me back from him feeling proud of me.

So here I am at least my real mom Huong Thi Vu should be happy since I am on the computer as a cool Resident Developer hehe Besides, my cousin Carl Anh Cuong Cao Vu who I always call a brother should be happy too since I don't keep asking him for money hehe

Well, I haven't given up. I regained my drive and determination to be the King of Programming hehe That is a very lofty goal. However Elvis is the King of Oldies right. hehe
