tie fighter collector's cd
tie fighter collector's cd
i can't get tie fighter collector's cd to run under windows 98, 2000 or xp. it installs ok, i choose no sound to avoid any sound card compatibility issues and start the game. it says something like "high resolution modes will not be available" and just quits. i've tried abandon loader and winxp compatibility tools, all for nothing. it's one of my favourite games, please help. thanks.

thanks. i'll try. in the meantime, i got myself a dos 6.22 system disk (www.bootdisk.com) and reformatted (partition magic) my c drive to fat....so now tie fighter works perfectly. any chances i can make my 64pci sound blaster work under dos? also, since the gameport is on the sound blaster, i get the feeling that in order to use my perfectly usable 10 years old joystick, i would have to get my sound blaster to work first. any ideas?
it's a fat (yes straight dos) partition, but it's a dual boot system (windows 98 and windows 2000). that doesn't matter though because i use a dos system disk to create a true dos enviroment.
i also tried lowering the resolution and, guess what? tie fighter now works under windows 2000! it also works under vmware in windows 2000. all i have to do now is to figure out why the hell it doesn't read the joystick which windows 2000 properly installed and calibrated. maybe i have to do it through vdmsound.

i've since gotten tie fighter to work with vdmsound in win2000 - it works now with sound and joystick. lowering the resolution also works with windows 98 however although i have "legacy" drivers installed for my sb 64 pci, tie fighter seems to ignore it (legacy driver says it emulates sb pro which is supported by tie fighter). any ideas why?
