I played it for hours on end, I think I may have got it from 1000 for windows but after finding what I believe to be an ISO of the same CD I had I can't find it on there.
It was a First person dungeon crawler, sort of similar to Dungeon Master (But not "famous")
I cant remember much except the art was very decent for the time.
Usual generic monsters aka large spiders.
Decent traps and puzzles, one of my favorites involved picking up a rock and throwing it onto pressure pads to open a portcullis but not set off a trap.
I think at the end of the game it switched to a top down view, still had to move around and kill some more things. Sadly I never got further than this part.

Hmm, the
Realms of Arkania games use isometric perspective for combat, while exploration is in the typical first-person view:
What platform again did you play this on? DOS, Win3.x, Win9x?

Win9.x
Not that one sadly, when i say top down i mean directly top down.
It was a jarring change for sure xD

Hm, not "famous" means the ones coming to mind aren't it. But that switching perspectives was part of Ultima and Wizardry (I think), so it might mean a game "in the old-school dos fashion like Ultima!" On the other hand, Might and Magic, Bard's Tale and similar didn't have that switching of perspective (again, as I recall!), so you might be able to focus in on "type" of RPG.
Do you remember, did you move freely like Ultima Underworld or a modern FPS, or did you move on "squares" - forward one square, turn left, etc.?
Lastly, does anyone remember, was there a first person-ish roguelike with random levels? That could be generic, but nothing's coming to my mind. Do you remember if it had a story, or was indeed random levels "get to bottom of dungeon"?

It was one square at a time movement, all combat and everything while underground was First Person.
I think time froze when not moving, not certain though.
There was some "story", essentially escape.

There was a Dungeon Master 2, and gamespot has a list of games "similar" - you might look through those:
http://www.gamespot.com/dungeon-master- ... atform/pc/
Random guess from the list:
Anvil of Dawn
Tangential to the topic, have you seen the recent Legend of Grimrock (
http://www.grimrock.net/ )? I'm somewhere in the middle and having lots of fun. Same type of game. It's available from several places, I bought mine from my much loved GOG.com.

Dragon Wars? Your party starts by being stripped off all possessions and thrown in the walled city of Purgatory.
