Audio from disc drive. [Unknown game.....] [= TFX]

I'm just not getting it. Trying to run a game from dosbox and at the same time having it play the soundtrack from the CD in the disc drive. Is this even possible? Reading the tutorial, I can't figure if it allows 'mounting' a folder in the hard drive and the disc drive at the same time in order for the game to run and the soundtrack to run. (The soundtrack is made to run from the CD while the game is running from the hard drive).
Can anyone help with this?

Just a follow up with trying to get dosbox to work the hard drive and disc drive simultaneously. I've tried this part: mount e c:\ 'dir' -t cdrom Am I working the right area? I'm not doing it correctly or something.

If you have to install/run a game from CD it's usual to mount the CD as D: , not as E:
Normal procedure:
Mount your virtual C:
Mount your CD as D: regardless of the drive letter under windows.
Syntax:
mount d x:\ -t cdrom
replace x:\ by your cd drive letter under windows.
Install the game IN dosbox from D: on C:
Next time you want to run the game:
Mount virtual C: (of course)
Mount CD as D:
launch game ( usual from c:\folder where game was installed.
Workaround: using a CD image works much better.
Then mounting is done by using imgmount
syntax:
imgmount d x:\path\name.iso -t cdrom
or if CD is mixed mode (extra sound/music tracks) you
will need to create a BIN/CUE CD image.
Syntax then becomes:
imgmount d x:\path\name.cue -t cdrom
Thank you

Thanks. I'll work on it. It's just that sometimes I try too hard and just get too lost.
Thanks again.

Just an update. I am still not getting it. I mount the C: drive and the disc drive but the game only skips and stutters the audio. I tried to designate the disc drive E: as D: but the install action complains that the main game directory could not be made and the installation aborts. When I:- mount c c:\tfx and mount e e:\ -t cdrom - Then the game installs from the CD and plays from the hard drive while trying to read the disc drive, however the music stutters and won't play beyond the first few seconds. It then skips to the beginning of the track and it just keeps doing this. While at the same time causing the game to lag.
I'm having a tough time trying to figure out how to use the imgmount option. How to I imgmount to the disc/file etc? Do I have to actually create some kind of text file and then install/convert it?

Is wrong, read the tutorials.
You need to mount a virtual C folder and do a
cd tfx, never directly mount a game folder as C
Modern hardware isn't suited to run ol'games from CD (the old drives didn't spin down/up ...)
So yes, CD image works much better.

You need specific software to create a valid CD image.
Get imgburn
http://www.imgburn.com/
careful with that installer, or you'll get some extra toolbars in your browser .
Run imgburn and:
Create image file from your CD
Use imgmount to mount image as D:
If ISO:
imgmount d x:\path\name.iso -t cdrom
or if CD is mixed mode (extra sound/music tracks) you
will need to create a BIN/CUE CD image.
Syntax then becomes:
imgmount d x:\path\name.cue -t cdrom
BIN/CUE always works , also for single mode CDs (no music tracks, only one data track)
Keep the names short, 8 chars, no spaces, no windows jingle bells, will make thing simpler

In fact it's been a while since I installed-played TFX, and I know some had problems with the installer in the past, so I decided to give it another try with dosbox 0.74, you never know if a game is 'broken' when updating to a newer dosbox version.
So here we go:
C mount + CD mount:
Installing the game:
Notice: works flawless in dosbox 0.74
Game setup choices:
NoticeĀ²: works also flawless in dosbox 0.74
Shutdown dosbox, relaunch dosbox + mounts and run game ( shutdown to be 100% game works and necessary config files are created)
Game launches flawless, some nice videos .....
And here we go again....
Yep, works fine, so please follow my advise, read the tutorials to mount your virtual C adapted to your OS, mount a CD image, install the game from D on C in dosbox.
Additional info: CD is indeed mixed mode, so only a BIN/CUE image will be 100% valid here,
not an ISO.

An update here. With imgmount going, only one track plays. Typically, about 5 tracks randomly play. I've tried all the various missions and all do the same thing.
Any advice on this? Do I need to do something particular with the creation of the CD image? So far all I did was create a disc image using that image burn you recommended.

Hmmm, works here.
Check your settings I would say, SB/CD must be enabled in the music row. (Take a look@the config screenie).
Otherwise:
Post what's in your *.cue file (open with notepad- select all - copy, don't save on exit)
Did you alter anything after creation of the CD image?
Your complete mount lines in detail?
Does it happens on your XP or Win7/64? (I thought you had both ...??)
Your dosbox version?
Details .... details .....

I don't get that mount line .... "oceandid" ???????????
... and you really - and I mean really really - should read and apply what's in the pinned Win7 tutorial, even if you run dosbox as admin -something you should not do- the outcome of that mount on a protective OS as Win7 is unpredictable.
XP times and insecure read/writes who allowed almost anything and everything are long past.

I'll review it and try to fix it up. Didn't think it was a biggie. With you being so adamant, I better do it.
I just made up the OceanDiD folder as a place for the file to be. That's all.
