I have been trying to find a game for ages, asked on several forums and no one could find it, so can anyone here help? Basically:
I am looking for a game I played once as a demo, but that was a very long time ago, mid 2000s (think it was from around that time it was released) or so. It was called undying or undead (not Clive Barker's Undying, its not like that but googling it, that's nearly all I get) and the graphics were a little "squarish or block-ish" and a bit quake 1 like (hard to describe).
It was first person horror shooter game and there was these small crawling maggot things that only had teeth (if I remember right, it was a roundish mouth, not very big) and were brown and possibly hairy and attacked you. There was also zombies with chainsaws. When you got attacked there was blood on the screen and I think the screen flashed red.
I remember when you loaded the game, the first screen you see had the name of the game along the top (either undying or undead) and an image of the mansion at the end of the first level that has the boss creature outside it (no boss in image) and there was music playing I think. I remember bats being in the game that attacked you and you started with a knife and you get a handgun and there is areas with lava in them, when you reach the mansion, you leave via sewers exit. I don't remember what the boss creature was you had to beat.
If I remember right there was a large box near the lava area that had metal bars around each side like a jail cell and I think there was items in it and the lava area was a little tricky to cross as I think the lava might have risen as you jumped from the rocky ledges to another and you might have had to lower the lava to get past or raise stone pillars to jump on, can't really remember
This game may (not 100% on this) a DOS game. Can anyone help? Been wondering what this game was for a long time. Its not a resident evil game or anything like that. I do remember the zombies had hokey masks and blue dungerees on and I got the game either (I think) on a PC Gameplay or PC Gamer magazine CD in UK.
Can anyone help? Been trying to remember for ages what it was, but can't find it. Its none of these:
Resident Evil
Marathon Computer Game Series
Any unreal engine games
Blood 1 or 2
Any doom game
Return to Castle Wolfstein
Nosferatu
Realms of the Haunting
Call of Cthulhu
Demise
House of the Dead
winthorps mansion
Chasm - The Rift
Strife
Clive Barkers Undying
The Haunted Mansion
I can't say for sure the exact date I played the game as I really don't remember. I don't remember a player name or what the plot was about or when the game was set. I don't remember being able to upgrade weapons, don't remember any dual weapons, only the two I mentioned, a pistol and knife. When you swung the knife, it was a slowish swing, not as fast as say, swinging a knife in Deus Ex. Hand gun when fired, didn't fire fast either.
Could have been bad guys with chainsaws for all I remember is vague. I think there was a short low growning sound when they got near, before a short sound of a chainsaw that didn't last long (only a few seconds), think ti was the same when chainsaw was used, sound only lasted a few seconds then stopped.
All I know about the environments, there is an underground area with stone walls, but not stone as in built by someone, more like natural brownish walls (can't remember enough to describe it) then you had to pass an area with some guys with chainsaws after getting through the first area with some lava in it (don't think it was all lava), then you were (I think) in an open area but enclosed by the stone walls (no roof so sky was visible), it may have been raining here maybe not, think it was though. The I don't remember how you get to the next part, but this part was in what I think was sewers. There was some bats here in some areas, possibly something else too, but I remember having to open some doors somehow to get through, possibly with levers. I then remember having to go up (possibly stairs here) and ending up outside near the mansion, it was dark but there was an old style streetlamp (sort of remember the streetlamp), and here is where you killed the boss (creature or whatever it was) before you went into the mansion. The mansion wasn't right beside the sewers, it was further behind where you exited.
If I also remember this right, the player made a male "aoh" sound when attacked, like he was in pain, it sounded like a fast groan. (Hard to explain)
What was in the game:
1) First person
2) Enemy's: Zombies with Chainsaws, Bats, furry brown crawling things with teeth (maggot like or caterpillars with teeth) had no eyes or I think, no legs either, looked hairy, but thin hairy, not sticking out hair.
3) Locations: Underground with lava in some areas, a sewer like area (has water running down the middle of the halls so I assume they were sewers) the doors in the hallways were wooden. Where you exit is not far from the mansion but I can't say for certainty what the mansion looked like.
4) Weapons/items I know where in game: knife (thin, not big, and grey, not like most knives in games and it swing to the left when you used it) and a pistol that is light grey and you could see the pistol being reloaded, taking out the old clip and putting in a new one. Health packs as well. All weapons used on right hand. Was chainsaws in the game but I don't remember being able to use them, only zombies had these
4) Game speed wasn't fast, I can't call it slow though but defiantly not as fast as games like DOOM 1 or Unreal 1 etc...
5) Had to defeat something before you continued to next part of game (where demo ended) but I can't remember what it was.
6) Blood or red on screen when you got attacked.
What I think was in the game or might have been in the game:
1) First level had an area of lava you had to cross, how you did it I don't remember but if you didn't do it right in a certian time, I think the lava rose or stones you stood on, disappeared and you died.
2) Possibly there was a file menu on the game window, how you started/saved the game, not a game menu as most games have, possibly why I thought the game was DOS
3) Doors in hall areas (which I think were sewers), were wooden and some needed levers to open.
4) When you killed the boss creature, you go to a big mansion and enter it for wherever reason I won't know until I find the game.
5) Game wasn't pixally - nearly 100% sure of this
6) The first screen you see was of the mansion and the name of the game was across the screen above it and possibly the game was one name, undying seems to stick in my mind for this but I can't find any game other than Clive Barker's Undying, with that name. Could have maybe had more than one word in the title with Undying but really don't remember enough to piece any title together.
7) The game used midi music instead of mp3s, but it did have wav files for sound effects such as gun shot, knife swing, chainsaw, rain etc...
Can anyone help? First PC Gamer CD I got was 1996 with summoner demo on it, so could be anytime after that when I got the PC Gamer with the cd with demo (NOT 2009-present) too recent.
Don't know if anyone will know this but...
Hexen or Heretic?
First thing that popped into my mind was 'Blood', but that's not it. Maybe Hexen or Heretic? But it doesn't really fit the description, wanted to tell you this anyhow.
Thanks but none of those. I checked out all PC Gamer magazines from 2000 onwards and it wasn't in any of the demo disks. So I assume since I first got PC gamer in 1996, it may be in any PC Gamer Demo CD from 1996-2000 but can't find any lists that say what demos was with each magazine from that time period. Would help a lot if I could find those as it may solve my problem.
You'll find some PC Gamer disks@
