DOS Games Discussion

Hey all, I recently had a dream in which I recalled playing a specific game again from my childhood. I can't remember the name. I remember opening it as a dos program even though my pc ran windows 95. Here is what I remember:

-it was 3D and you could play in either first/third person POV

-you started out in a "mother ship" that was moving at a constant speed over a small area of geography, from which you undocked and began your mission

-you were in a small greyish ship that had two afterburner looking engines that emitted a trail of fire/smoke puffs

-said ship was eqipped with lasers, and you could upgrade these lasers by collecting three similarly colored gems that would appear as debris after destroying a hostile building or outpost. they would disappear after a short while

-there was mild ui, with altitude, pitch, and direction

-destroyable terrain

-could fly at all angles

I am looking for this exact same game just by the description I believe, can anyone help?

I want to say it was very similar to Descent but had an open outside world.

I don't think this is the game the OP is looking for, but a game very similar to Descent that I know is Radix.

Also, a series of games the I don't know (personally) but might fit the description is Privateer.

Sounds like Flying Saucer.
