Settlers 2 - Mouse not working in Win XP

I'm trying to run Settlers 2, and no matter what I do (compatibility mode, etc.) it always writes "Unknown mouse found" or something like that, and the mouse doesn't work. It does work in most other DOS games, including the settlers 2 setup pogram. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Do you have a USB mouse? If so you may find the game will work if you switch to a PS2 or serial mouse instead.

I do have a Microsoft optical USB mouse, but it came with a PS2 adapter and is currently connected to that.

Have you tried "Exclusive Mode" in Mouse settings in properties?

You may wanna open up a DOS prompt, run a DOS mouse driver like Cute Mouse:

http://cutemouse.sourceforge.net/program/ctmous19.zip

Then try running the game ... s'worth a shot :)

Hi again,
I wrote some little mistake, becouse it's not only my mouse freez but
all program - s2.

I found the program who emulating windows 98 on xp and i will check settlers 2 when I install it.

But I want play on XP - I now that I can but why it doesn't work I don't know.

Yesterday I played all night in s2 on xp and everything was alright...
But i went to my bed and I turned off my computer, and ofcourse today s2 works like always (it's freezing some seconds later when I run the game  )

Use the Software Compatibility Wizard - Look in Start > programs > accessories
