There is a game I used to watch my mom play when I was 4 years old. That was around 95' or 96' so it was made before then. It was an adventure game although I don't remember if there was any fighting or not. When you talked to people it would go to a screen with a black or maybe some dark color for a background with your character's portrait in one corner and the other person's on the other side with stuff to talk about in between. The other characters were voice acted but you weren't. From what I remember it's similar to Quest for Glory 4. Except for maybe the fighting since I don't know on that but how the dialog and graphics look it's close.
I hope some of you can come up with something from that, if not I'll try to remember some other details.
