Discover the World??? Can't remember!!!

I'm trying to remember the name of an old DOS game I used to play. Very rudimentary graphics, but fun for me back then.

You would set out on a ship from somewhere around europe and try to discover new areas. once you picked somewhere to land you could trade for goods. Silks, trinkets, fur. I don't know. I just remember to get the good stuff you'd have to sail to china without a map and that could actually prove to be difficult cause you could run out of food or have a mutiny, etc. ha.

Anybody remember this? Please Help

Maybe you can find it there.

But by your description it can be almost any discovery dosgame ever published.

Maybe if you can give some more game specific facts ...... it would ring a bell.

sorry to be vague, that's probably why i haven't found it.

first off, none of the games in the link were the one i was looking for.

what I remember:

mid to late 80's, early 90's

the objective was to sail out on your ship from your port (spain, england, etc.) get goods, and then bring them back to where you came from, and sell them to make money. i guess the objective was to make money.

it was really basic. i seem to remember a line that would mark your course while you were sailing on a map that would start to complete as you landed places. sometimes you would hit the rocks. but information on what was happening was all text based. once you came to shore it would ask you if you wanted to trade, what and how much. while you were sailing it would show how much food you had, how many people you had, so you would know when you needed to land to replenish. because if you didn't your crew would either mutiny or all die.

i don't remember any fighting, but it could of been something like, "the natives attacked and you lost 2 men". in other words, no interactive fighting.

different places you would land would have a different assortment of goods to trade for. and i don't think they would always agree to trade. usually the further you went the more valuable, except for america. that's why i would go to asia. really valuable goods. just had to get back alive.

Not sure if this will help any. Sorry for my lack of remembrance, but thanks for your attempt.

actually the graphics weren't even as advanced as "uncharted waters". no cartoons or anything. i don't even really remember pictures. but it would seem like there would have to be something.

The more and more I describe this game, the less i think i'll actually like it if i do find it. :)

thanks again though.

Hmmm... what about:

That's pretty basic.

I dare to say even more basic than that.

Things different:

You didn't create colonies

There wasn't a map of the world (or at least you couldn't see where you were going) but you could land anywhere, on any continent you wanted. I think shorline appeared when you landed or if you sailed along it. and that's shorline from an aerial map view, so just a line. Of course doing that in the game was risky because you might run aground or such.

So I would say pre Christopher Columbus era. or at least not to far past

And if you don't want to keep searching, that's ok. Maybe i'll be able to find it on mobygames.

Thanks.

More basic?
Hanse comes in mind, they don't have it on Mobys, only the later sequel, Hanse: Die Expedition, but that's not what you're looking for.
Maybe the first one, that's a ported C64 game.

The first one you can find on HotUs:

That's reaaaaaaaaaaaaally basic.
[EDIT]
Takes some time to load on HotUs........ :)

Could be.
That's how the original looked in 1984 (could fit your description):
http://www.mobygames.com/game/seven-cit ... creenshots

Also there was a remake from 1993 (definitively not what you're looking for):
http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/seven ... creenshots

You can find the original (1984) @HotUs:

As the game was a PC-booter (means non-Dos) it's a flopper, means you will need to boot into the game.

It sounds like Discover the World. I got it through Scholastic. It's got a black background with teal, vector like art and you map the world bit by bit and hut for food, get treasure, and buy more ships and more shipmates.

Been looking for it myself

There is also the original game "Discover the World" somewhere out there but I still can't get my hands on it. It was for the Apple II at my elementary school. Can ANYONE find that one is the real question.

I definitely remember that game, but I think we had "Discover the World 2" instead (which makes sense, as I was in elementary school in the mid-late 90's). I can't find it anywhere, either. Even the almighty Google has nothing about it that I can find, except this thread. If anyone can find it, that'd be awesome. :)

I too have been looking for the game..."Discover the World." Im sure it was called that. I remember when you found a country, India for example, you would see fireworks, in color, and it would say "you discovered India." You would also recieve like 5000 or 10000 points for this. I would love to see screenshots or find the game. Btw I played this in 6th grade, 1989. Keep looking guys, someones gotta have it.

Oh wow....I last played this game back in...1995 or so and I just never forgot it. I am thrilled to discover the name of it. I had been looking for it for such a long time.

I remember so much about the game. You started off as either english, french, dutch, portuguese, or spanish, and the map was all black except europe I think. You could chart coastlines and get like 10 score per day you did so. You could trade with the natives. North America was always a ripoff. Also, if you traded with an area too much, it would take them time to restore the amount you bought from them. There was like gems, food, trinkets, porcelain (in japan/china).

Countless times I have tried to find it on these old game websites...with no success :/

Hello. I recently just found a bag of unopened old computer games. I have Discover the World II for macintosh in it's original box and plastic.
