Hmm, probably wrong, but...any/all of the Star Wars X-wing games had you fiddling with the energy balance between guns & shields. Also the Wing Commander series had that for some energy weapons.

My guess will be 'Wing Commander: Privateer" just to choose my favorite from them :-)

Good suggestion, but nope. Any more guesses?

Unreal Tournament - didn't the electricity/gauss gun use the same energy packs as the shield?

No idea - I only played the demo version of the game :) So no, it's not the one I had in mind.

Time for clue number two I guess:

Clue 2: In this game, you need to find and rescue captives in the levels.

Does Duke use any ammo for powering up something else there?

Nope, not Electro Man. But you're thinking in the right direction ;)

Didn't have a better guess, and he might have, it's been a while. If it was the right guess. Which it wasn't.

To cheer you up, what I said about thinking in the right direction applies both to you and wardrich :) Count thins as a semi-clue ;)

Right you are, it's Alien Carnage.

Can you refresh me on your first clue? It's been a while since I've played that game.
In this game, ammo for one of the weapons is also used to power a piece of the player's non-offensive equipment.

Flame thrower throws the flame but the ammunition also charges the Jetpack.

I guess it's my turn now ;)

The character of this game once was strategically placed in Super Mario Land but is NOT an official character (wardrich if you don't get this then you're fired xD).

Wario? Although that was Super Mario Land 2 as I recall. Although are we guessing things in the game now or the games themselves?

Flamethrower ammo is also used as fuel for the jetpack.

BTW, I expected someone to mention Descent II as a possible guess, as you have to rescue captive humans and there's a shield recharger item that converts extra laser energy to shields.

I was actually thinking of Descent 1 with the rescuing captives part. I'd never played the 2nd one, though.

PS: I think I'm fired 'cause I actually don't know :( It's not Commander Keen is it?
