I've updated the spam list.

There's really no point banning spammers anymore, they just keep coming back

Ok, here is another spammer to add 'Ririn01':

http://www.dosgames.com/forum/profile.p ... le&u=14177

Post contains *one* spam link hidden in an otherwise long quoted text, with a generic thanks framing.

---

(you missed 'Maya055' from the previous post - nonsense text with link)
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/profile.p ... le&u=14152

---

More new spammy posters:

Pokr2355
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/profile.p ... le&u=14179

Maya541
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/profile.p ... le&u=14180

And a frequent spam poster:

Fernandes
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/profile.p ... le&u=14130

Either the spam-filter modified the last post, or the bot is becoming self-aware.

---

(Another way to filter may be to hide new users first post until vetted by an admin, but that is probably equally time consuming.)

How about hiding identified spammers posts to everyone except themselves - maybe they will keep using the same userid and not create new ones so much.

Possibly make a spammer group of these guys so they can chat internally and perhaps see only their own posts it will keep the bots clueless and happy?

Testing something here, just created a section for spammers to post in as guests.. Posts are auto purged after a day.

How about automatically move new posts from already identified spammers to the new spam forum? (No matter where/what they post)

I like this idea. We'll make them easy to identify as spammers as well, in case one makes it back into the wild.

I'm not updating the spam list nowadays, they are self evident anyway in most cases, and the Cheeze spammer is just a minor annyoance IMO.

Some automatic way of filtering more disruptive spam like the recent flood from 'fbarraza28' would be good. Most of the spam posts by that bot are in long dead threads, and anything new and relevant now gets drowned in that deluge.

Rwolf.... thanks for the plug! For you plug I mentioned you in my credits. An interesting note is this program is over 100 k and ran out of memory while compiling.

A cap on the number of links in a post would help against the frank barraza type infestation, but with the forum engine hopelessly out of date I don't think it's likely to happen.

I've just cleaned up the find old games section of several dozens of barraza's poopposts, the moderator controls are very clumsy and inefficient here. I wish an admin would come around and nuke the fella altogether with all its posts, but no idea if this may happen soon.

A couple of times today I've seen a spambot warning screen for my own IP when I have logged in or making a report.
Looking at spamhouse.com, I cannot find a matching warning there, and when retrying the operation things work as usual again.

Is there some overload attack still ongoing, or what?

Looks like this spammer/bot (account now deactivated, but I'm keeping their posts for possible research) was using ChatGPT to create "meaningful" replies in threads:
