Dosbox and USB are OK, but:
dosraider wrote: So I will presume you have on your usb key:
\dosbox 072\
\dosgames\

in Windows
and your \dosgames\ mounted as virtual C:
So you will see IN DOSBOX a C: when you startup dosbox.
Keep in mind that WINDOWS paths and DOSBOX paths aren't the same.
\dosgames\ NOT \ so:
Open dosboxfolder again, edit dosboxconfig file and alter the
mount c \ to
mount c \dosgames\
Your USB dosbox will run with x:\dosgames\ mounted as C:, this is done so that when you get your compy back you simply can copy the whole dosgames folder on your HD, otherwise you'll have to start over once again, and we don't want that, do we?

7Zip will create the needed folders on your USB key.
You double click on keen.zip, must open with 7Zip now,
-> select ALL files in the archive
-> look above in the menu bar -> hit button 'EXTRACT', a popup window will open, input
x:\dosgames\temp\ in the 'copy to' field.
Here I must write a X:\ because you still haven't told your full paths, I have no idea what the drive letter is of your USB key ....*sigh*

Captain comic the same, unzip ALL files in the archive to
x:\dosgames\comic\

And check your PMs. :)

[EDIT]
It is obvious reading your posts that you have no idea at all what paths are nor how it works.
So read on and try to understand.

In Windows you can click on anything and Windows will go to the correct location (folder) and execute the according program. (Same goes for Mac).

Dos is another matter( and thus dosbox, as it's a Dos emulator).
Dos knows a 'root', Usually a C:

In dosbox you mount a directory (folder) that dosbox will use as C: (root)
From that C you can cd whatever to c:\whatever but only if that 'whatever' exist and is on that C:
When you have the Windows path
c:\users\sue\dosgames\ mounted as virtual C: in dosbox , dosbox only can see it as C: , and thus only can go to a sub that is located DIRECTLY on that C:
If you have in Windows c:\users\sue\dosgames\temp\ dosbox will only be able go to that 'temp' subfolder when it shows a C: prompt.

More: programs can only be found by dosbox and executed when the prompt is valid, means:
If you unzip the install files for Keen in
c:\users\sue\dosgames\temp\
and you mount c:\users\sue\dosgames\ as virtual C: in dosbox,
you must IN DOSBOX first go to c:\temp\ from C: ,
so IN DOSBOX you input:
cd temp so your prompt becomes c:\temp\ ,that 'prompt' is what you see in dosbox.
When in c:\temp\ you input install with the path to install
c:\keen\
dosbox will create a C:\keen on the Dosbox VIRTUAL C:
in Windows it will be written as c:\users\sue\dosgames\keen\

I know it's probably kinda confusing when you never been on Dos, but try to understand.

z:\c:
c:\>
I have inputted
C:\>CD TEMP
c:\TEMP>INSTALL

IT WENT TO INSTALL BOX AND INSTALLED COMMANDER KEEN
AND YES IT RUNS THANK YOU SO MUCH

NOW I HAVE DONE THE SAME THING WITH COMIC
Z:\C:cd comic
C:\comic\comic

yes it runs too hahahaha getting somewhere

yes i read the pm
and in the process of that too
you are right it is very confusing the windows and dos thing
but hopefully i am getting somewhere on the usb key and i think it is easier
than trying to put it on the computer and change everything

i cannot download the games i get a http request failed
so will have to go back to cds i think
I will experiment with them

sue wrote: MOUNT E E:\ -t cdrom
No.
mount d e:\ -t cdrom
Mount CDdrive as D: in dosbox, not as E: , as described in the howtos, there is a reason for that, but I'm too lazy to repeat all that stuff once again.
Lazy me.

BTW, you have a PM.

No 'sorry' needed, we're here to help. :)

First, did the downloaded DOT worked?

About Indy:
You must open Jones_fate_of_atlantis.zip with 7Zip, select ALL files -(CTRL+A)- hit 'extract' and in the popup window input
j:\dosgames\atlantis\
Run dosbox and input:
cd atlantis
atlantis

No typos allowed.

ALT+ENTER to swith to full screen and back.

Lets first get those ones running before we get to the CD of Sam&Max ....

just thought i would wait and see what i need to do
and how to run them before i muck them all up

My dear sue, let us take you up one level in the use of forums shall we?

What you don't do is use one topic for all the games you download and ask about 200 games in the same topic.
From now on this topic is restricted to: DOTT and Indy-Atlantis.
Also you will learn to use the 'search' function on the forum to avoid asking questions that already has been answered many times.

The Indy-Atlantis version you downloaded is a non-talkie one, the floppy version, if you want the full talkie you will have to install your CD version, means learn to mount your CDdrive and install that version IN dosbox.
However as it's a Lucasarts game, there were several 'upgraded' releases, and some of them can't run in Dos without a lot of work.
If you want we will try to get your CD version running, but I can't promise it will work, all depends of the version you have.

About Doom:
dosraider wrote:Here, I had to redownload the sharewareversion from the site ....

The zip, DOOM19s.zip contains 5 files, unzip them in:
c:\users\FAMILY\dosgames\doom\

Run dosbox, be sure that c:\users\FAMILY\dosgames\ is correctly mounted as virtual C and that the prompt in dosbox shows C, not Z, I gonna suppose that by now that will be ok .....

Your inputs in dosbox: (and hit enter after every line)

cd doom
install

That will start the installation, your choices:
Accept C
Accept \doom\ as directory -(not \dooms\ see below)-
Let it run, takes some time
You'll get setupscreens automatically after the deicing,
Choices to make:

Controller: keyboard only I always play doom keyb only...

Music card: Sound blaster -> port adress 220

Sound FX : Sound Blaster -> port adress 220 ->IRQ7->DMA1
Number of channels to mix: begin with 4, doom is pretty greedy.

save and launch doom and here ya go.

To play again later:

cd doom
doom

The installer want to use dooms , but you're easier with doom as folder.
The only reason they propose dooms is because it's the shareware version. But it works fine with doom.

[Edit]
BTW, if you want to play full screen hit ALT+ENTER whilst ingame, and again to go back in window mode.
Replace c:\users\FAMILY\dosgames\doom\ by j:\dosgames
I suppose you're still on your USB key?

I did look thru the forums to see if i could find them but i didnt
but will behave myself from now on
yes ok I am happy just to have indy jones up and running
but i will give the cd a try as long as i dont lose the indy jones i have already
i have the original books with the discs and it says it is
the lucas arts archives volume 1
if that is any help at all
yes i am on the usb key still and will just keep the dosbox games for the usb key
i think i would rather have the usb key as the dosgames than put on the computer
hopefully my computer comes back on monday but i will stick to the usb key
and do have other questions for you
so will start a new forum
i will wait and hear from you about install the cds

No sorry needed Sue, simply open a new topic for each game you can't get to run, otherwise it's a complete mess here.

Now about Indy-Atlantis:
First of all rename the 'atlantis' folder you have now on your USB to:
Highlight it and hit F2 to rename a folder
atlant1

To run this one you will have to input:
cd atlant1
atlantis

It works, I have tested it, and so you avoid that the one on CD overwrites it.

Now mount your Indy CD with this line:
mount d x:\ -t cdrom
Replace the x:\ by the real drive letter under windows.
Input
d:
in dosbox and then
dir
Now take a screenshot of it, you do that by hitting:
CTRL+F5 once, it will be saved as *.png file in your dosbox0.72 folder in a subfolder called captures,
upload it to
http://www.imageshack.us/
and post the link here.

Close/reopen dosbox and do the same with your Sam&Max CD, create a new topic and post the S&M screenshot there.
Dosbox will not overwrite the other screenshot, they all get a different number.

That it says 'lucasarts volume 1' doesn't say much about it, they all say the same .... not my fault.
Problem is that the later releases only had the Win95 installer, not the dos installer.
It's possible to install those in dos anyway, but you will have to do some extra work .....

BTW, what's the size of your USB key?

oh boy
i have troubles with these cds
okay in dosbox i renamed the folder to atlant1
i opened it in dosbox cd atlant1
atlantis
and it ran
so now i have put the cd in the E drive
I PUT MOUNT D E:\ -T CDROM
ILLEGAL TYPE CDROM
c:\d:\
DRIVE D DOES NOT EXIST
YOU MUST MOUNT IT FIRST
c:\
SO WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG THIS TIME???
IT IS SO FRUSTRATING

I HAVE TAKEN THE CD OUT OF THE E DRIVE
AND HAVE TRIED IT AGAIN
SAME THING SO IT WASNT THE DISC IN THE DRIVE
HELP

MY USB KEY IS 2GB

I DIDNT TRY SAM AND MAX BECAUSE OF THE SAME THING

Retry, you probably made typos.

And chill out pumpkin, no need to get so easily frustrated.
In the ol'days we had to do all this and a lot more directly in MsDos on usually pretty crappy and unstable PCs, we survived, so will you.
Dosbox is heaven compared to those days.
Really.

Sam&Max
You have a setup and samnmax try one of those, should get you a game installer, install the game on your C: in dosbox.

Atlantis.
You have an Atlantis on the root, try that one, should get you an installer running, if not do a cd atlantis whilst on your D: and look what's in it.
As far as I can see the CD has the dosversion, but not 100% sure.

BTW, you didn't needed to register on imageshack to upload a pic ... :D
You simply had to hit the 'browse' button to upload a pic.
But on the other hand, it won't hurt you to register there.....

I put the disc in sam and max

Merged the double Indy-Atlantis topic here....
sue wrote: so as usual always problems with me
Ok what is an ISO?
i do have dvd fab on my computer
but did download express burn
but not sure what to do from there?
I can make a copy of the cd and then what do i do from there
went to zshare but wasnt sure how to do it either
I had a look at dvd fab they dont have iso files
and i dont mind at all sending you my discs
or what ever i have to do
hahaha
i am using express burn
and it is saving iso image
it said it successfully created disc but dont know where
I went to zshare and put in atlantis iso and it comes up with OOOmb
so means nothing on it
I guess I will need your help on this one
and also to get doom to run on windows
ISOs.
*****

I suppose with 'burn' you mean imgburn?

Input your atlantis CD
Open imageburn.
Select 'create image file from disk'
Select your CD drive in 'source'

Click on the folder icon in 'destination'
Select your USB key and input a suitable name (atlan will do fine)
Open the 'select as' and choose ISO files
Click on 'save'
Click on the thing below with the disk icon and that green arrow as showed in the pic.
Let it do .....

click-> Image

Once you have the ISO on the USB key you don't need the CD anymore, keep that one somewhere safe in the box, hard to find those...
Let me know the exact location and name of the ISO on your USB, I will learn you how to mount the imagefile in dosbox.

ZShare
******
Go on http://www.zshare.net/
Click on the 'browse' button
Point to your file
Check the 'agree tos', click on 'share it' and let it upload, takes some time, you'll get a link, PM me that link.
That's all, no need to register.
sue wrote:i downloaded the imgburn and did exactly what you said
said it was completed successfully
Okay everything went perfect
I uploaded it
where do you want the link? here or PM how do i do that?
sue wrote:Hey i forgot,
if i want to i can do the same to all the other cds right so i dont need cds to play
and can give to my daughter
also forgot how do i start them?
PM the link please, THX.

Now how to use those ISO in dosbox:
dosraider wrote: Let me know the exact location and name of the ISO on your USB, I will learn you how to mount the imagefile in dosbox.
Ahem ...?
Anyway the syntax is:
imgmount d x:\path\name.iso -t iso
This will replace the CD in dosbox.
Let me know how it works, then I will learn you to write a batch -(don't panic, it's simple)-, so that you can mount the needed CD in one stroke.

Replace x:\path\name.iso by the correct location/name of the ISO.

You can use that method for most of your Lucasarts Cds, as they aren't mixed mode Cds.
For mixed mode CDs ,-(that are CDs with music tracks on it)-, you will need to create BIN/CUE images, that's almost the same as ISO images, except they are created in two parts, a BIN file and a CUE file.

ImgBurn can also create those, select BIN in stead of ISO for file format.
You mount those in dosbox with
imgmount d x:\path\name.cue -t iso
The CUE and the BIN must be in the same folder.
sue wrote:i PUT ATLANTIS IN j:THAT IS THE USB DRIVE
i did try it
i put imgmount d j:\toshiba\atlan.iso.-tiso
the image must be on a host or local drive
So i did something wrong

not sure what i have to do really or if i did right in the first place

check pm
LMAO, j:\toshiba\ isn't the path, that's the brand name of your USB device.
Paths are:
J:\
or j:\dosgames\
or
j:\dosgames\fate\

Try this:
imgmount d j:\atlan.iso -t iso

Or as you're on USB:
imgmount d \atlan.iso -t iso

Mind the spaces.
imgmountspacedspace\atlan.isospace-tspaceiso

Check your PM. :)
