Queen the eYe

Right, here i go again with yet another game that won't run properly, or at all.

(I know someon'e s going to call this game rubbish or lame nor do i care :D)

I keep reading rumors that DOSbox can run this gmae, but as to how..i have no idea, it's installed in my C:\ drive and using Dosbox (0.73 i think) I type the following:

Mount c c:\games
C:
Cd queen

when i type Eye i get this message

Error MSCDEX not installed. <---(what the heck is that anyway?)

I do however have the game on CD, not that i think it makes much difference as i have no idea how to run it off the CD and i think it's only got install files on disc anyhow.

any ideas anyone? i really fancy playing the game (despite it's bad reviews ;))

If YOU don't know what's on your compy, how do you want us to know?????

Now, what I think:
First:
If on XP:
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5443
If on Vista:
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10437

What I think next:
Mount your CD drive as D in dosbox (0.73 maybe)
mount d x:\ -t cdrom
x:\ = replace by real drive letter under windows (I think, maybe ....)

Let see what I think next ...
Ah yeah, maybe:
Install the game IN dosbox from D on C.

After checking i was wrong it was 0.72 but upgraded to 0.73 :D

I'm on XP (should have put that, i'm sorry)

But as previously stated, the game IS installed on my C Drive.

also as mentioned i get a MSCDEX error <--(Still no idea what this is, or how it's fixed)

is there another way to get it to run? please don't go down the route of Virtual machines either, i don't have a win 95 or 98 disc, nor do i intend to pirate one because that would be wrong.

now can you help with it?

Do i correctly read that as:

Put cd in cd-rom drive
Mount cd-drive in Dosbox
use Dosbox to install game on to C:\
find installed folders on C:\
do the C:\ mount c c:\ folder
Mount d c:\folder\game -t cdrom
C:
CD game
.exe

is that right? or wrong?

Install the game IN dosbox from D on C.
Read and apply the 'first' euuuuu ... first.

Next mount your CD as D
Install from D on C in dosbox.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I've recently got a new PC with Windows 7 and I've been trying to get some old games to work with varying degrees of success. One that's giving me trouble is Queen The Eye. The games installs from the CD through Windows, but when I try to load the game I get incompatibility errors, despite trying various compatibility settings. After reading this thread I installed Dosbox 0.74, and mounted the disc drive but I can't seem to get Queen to work at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mount lines?
Config choices?
Inputs to run the game?

Detailed please.

Also²:

NEVER install dos games in Windows.
Always install dos games in dosbox.
You may delete everything you've done till now and start over from scratch.

This is where I show myself up. A lot of this goes way over my head!

I've used

mount d d:\ -t cdrom

to access the cd via Dosbox.

Do I do this within dosbox itself, or in the config file (in place of the mount c "c:\... indicated in the link you posted) or both?

This gonna take some time ......

Did you or did you not mount a virtual C ...?
Did you or did you not install the game in dosbox?

Your post isn't very clear about those points.

I'm not making myself clear so I'll start from the beginning.

Downloaded and installed Dosbox 0.74, and following the instructions in the link you gave I changed the config file by adding

mount c "c:\games\oldgames"
c: .

Next, using the instructions from a post near the top of this thread I went into Dosbox and entered

mount d x:\ -t cdrom

That's where I'm at at the moment and completely clueless.

:blah:
No, as you're on Win 7 you did NOT follow the instructions.

Back to step 1, and follow the instructions this time.

Is x:\ your CD drive letter under windows?
If not, what is your CD drive letter under windows?

Sorry, the CD drive is D, I had changed the letter from x already.

But I see what I did wrong before. I've now created the folder c:\users\your name\oldgames

and then in the config file done

mount c "c:\users\your name\oldgames"
c:
