From the ones I played, I'd have to say AoE. Simply because it's the only one I've played. I'm not a that big fan of RTS. I mean, C&C was a great game, but I've had more fun with X-Com (Which is turn based)
In fact, in my youth, we didn't have real time! Everything was turnbased! We were happy if we had enough time units to drink and eat! But we didn't complain, no sir!
In dosraiders youth, stuff wasn't even turnbased, it was just one turn! And you had to be happy if that turn didn't crash!

The original is something special to me, but there are some annoying gameplay issues which are fortunately resolved in the sequel.
But I still prefer AOE1 overall, even though I haven't played it for a while.

Shouldn't this thread been done with a voting poll? (suggestion)
IMO, nothing beats the original of the series.
However, the others were also good as well...
...to a certain point!

+1. Definitely one of the best games of all times and maybe the best strategy game ever. To me, graphics still looks pretty after all this time. Anyone plays it still online? What do you think about Age of Mythology?
