digger with dosbox

Post by skazhy »

there is a problem with digger`s speed on dosbox. i tried to decrease the cycles (crtl+f11) and the game got too slow, so the question is:

on how fast emulation (how many cycles) are you playing digger on DOSbox 0.72, so it runs in normal speed?

oh, by the way: maybe someone knows more about these games?

Thanks in advance!

First point:
Thank you for your very detailed post, it's really very informative, all your system specs/OS and so are present.
PFFFFFFRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.

About your problem:
Damn, you must have or a crappy PC or a completely screwed up one.
CTRL+F11 is to slow down the emu speed.
CTRL+F12 is to speed things up.

Open dosboxconfig, look under header [CPU]

Set those values:
core=dynamic
cycles=max

Playing around with the [OUTPUT] values can also help, depending OS/Hardware.
What were your specs again? Oh, unknown, now yeah, read the dosbox readme for more info.

That's 'bout it.
When running a game in dosbox shut down EVERYTHING you don't need and that's running on the background.
Includes fancy desktop enhancements, internet, msn, whatevers whatnots.
Set desktop/winlook classic.
Etcetera.
Run a AntiVir/AntiSpy program once in a while, eventually pause AntiVir scans that are running on the background, such things.
If you're on Vista shut down background defrag.
Dosbox usually needs all the free resources it can get.

If you 'overclock' the CPUcycles the game even runs jerkier then when you run it on too low ones.
To know what your PC can handle:
CTRL+ALT+DEL once, look in your CPU load tab, when the load reaches 95% that's the max your PC can handle.

On a side note, overclocking will NOT hurt your PC, so feel free to experement.

Also : be sure to have the latest dosbox version (currently 0.72).
