Hero Quest issue

Post by KT_Cobra »

I'm having this issue with Hero Quest (downloaded from HotU). I am not using dos box for this. When I try to play the game, it's WAY too fast. You are supposed to click which way you want to go square by square but it just jumps all the way through each move turn in one click. Also, there is a dice roll in the game in which you're supposed to tell it when to stop (I think) and before I tell it to stop it's spinning SO fast it's like a BLUR. Also, I have to set the game to be played by the mouse and not keyboard due to the little hand (mouse pointer) moving around the screen EXTREMELY fast with just the press of a directional key. I would appreciate any help with this. I have the game running in 256 color mode, compatible with Windows 95 set, and 640x480 res.

Why aren't you running it in DOSBox? Try that first and see if that fixes the problems.

Yes, definetly try Dosbox. I also downloaded it, ran it through dosbox and it works 100% fine.

I'm a moron when it comes to dosbox. I took a tutorial on how to use it and still can't get it to work. I guess I'll have to give it another shot.

*I* mount C:\ as C. But then apparently I'm a rebel. B) Yes, for safety reasons, it's best not to mount C:\ as C.

emmzee, the day you will run an infected program, you're whole system will be screwed up.
Yes, some ol'dos basic virusses can do that with all *.exe / *.com files.
And those recursively ol'virusses escapes on the attention of your avir, just because they are so basicly simplistic. They load themselves in your memory, stay resident and do their job on the c:\ , and when your own c:\ is mounted as c:\ ..........

That's a bit the joke, the modern virusses are detected and halted, the oldest dos ones not.

That's one doom scenario, there are plenty other possibilities.
The c:\root is a vulnerable thing on modern systems. Many vital system files are stored there.
Really, don't mount that way, sooner or later you gonna be very sorry.
