I second that!dosraider wrote:dayaccus007 wrote:Linux is for server.
Dayaccus007, it's true that Linux is also used for servers since it's more secure and way faster than Windows, but, it's also used for home users that are just sick of Microsoft
I mean, you have plenty of ported software, but more importantly open source software(that's, in plain English, FREE!)

wrong ! Linux is for thos that want to A) know what everything does and want to be able to make everything work the way they want.dayaccus007 wrote:Linux is for server.
these 2 points are most likely the main reason why people prefer using linux for servers.
yet it does not mean that people HATE using linux as a standard O/S for all there general work and gaming.

Ow really ?
Me thinks it's time you upgrade your knowledge about Linux , friend.
Take a jump there:
http://www.ubuntu.com/
Desktop edition ànd server edition.
And now you gonna post what the 'restrictions' are I suppose ?
Please don't post some bad game OS crap, will ya ? Desktop isn't about gaming.

Well, I've been using Mepis and Sabayon for a while now, and I've found that compared to Windows, there are NO restrictions...dayaccus007 wrote:I say that linux is for servers because for exemple if you are a big gamer than this operating system is not the best solution for you, but for servers is because of his stability and security.I haven't say you cannot use it for desktop, you can.But it has some restriction.

er... WHAT?
Ok, true not all programs are ported to Linux but there are plenty of alternatives and even better, there's Wine!
As for DirectX, not only you need to brush up on your Linux knowledge but you also need to go to dunno... wikipedia from time to time, DirectX it's Microsoft Windows EXCLUSIVE, that means it was never supposed to be used on anything else than Windows(and ehm, the XBox) so not only that DirectX 10 won't work on Linux, none of the DirectX versions will! But don't be afraid to use google, you'll see that there are many alternatives(my, my! Didn't I say that already?)
As for DirectX 10, screw it! They Replaced DirectSound and DirectInput with those "ripped-from-XBox" XInput and XInput. Ah well I could rant like this for a while but I should stop now before I write a whole bloody novel!

Linux has never supported Direct X. It uses OpenGL.dayaccus007 wrote:One restriction is that not all programs have versions for linux and one recent
is that linux will not have Dx10 suport. Are more restrictions but this I have in my mind right now.
And most Windows applications/games have FREE clones over on the Linux side... I think to state it more correctly, "not all Linux apps have a Windows port"

There's no need for those, a decent[and well configured] parental control device will do the trick!dosraider wrote:And if a parent wants .... stealth log progs enough around.
