having issues with games working, not only dos games.

Hi all, hope it is ok to post this here. I am having issues with some games. Demon World, Clu Clu land, Ms Pac Man Quest for the Golden Maze to name a few.
Issue: I had installed Ms. Pac Man Quest....and it worked just fine. I then finished it and uninstalled it. Same for Clu Clu. Demon World just would not play at all. I installed Ms. Pac and Clu Clu again and when I try to play them, I get to the start game screen and start it and the graphics go haywire. I don't know how to explain this, but the screen gets flashy and blinky really fast flashes and I get lines through it, blocks of light colors across the bottom or dashed lines of reds and blues etc...double everything that is on the screen, or a full screen and then parts look like wrap around. Sometimes I have to ctrl-alt-del to get out of it, when I push that the game looks ok until I hit play again, then I have to manually shut down. Sometimes there is a performed illegal operation error message blah blah, It is doing this now on a couple games I been playing such as Brave dwarves and sometimes it works fine. These are games I have purchased from Best Buy etc...

My system is Win 98 SE, my video card is Nvidia GEForce4mx 4000.
Could my card be going bad? Thanks for any help in advance, iti s greatly appreciated. Enigma.

That's exactly what my old Win3.1 did before it completly burned out the CPU!!!!!

Thanks for the reply GameMaster, I contacted NVidia via e mail and did a bit of research myself. Here is the reply from NVidia, it has links and I'll post them in a way so as to not disturb the rules and such...just omit the spaces in the links, but thought they would be helpful to everyone else...

1. remove all existing interface ( AGP, PCI ) cards in the system other than the video card.
2. Uninstall current video card driver in add / remove programs in control panel.
3. Use a driver cleaner software available at: h t t p : // w w w.drivercleaner. net afterwards.
4. Restart computer in safe mode, reinstall video card driver. You can try older drivers at this link: h t t p : / / w w w.nvidia.com/object/win9x_archive.html

Check if this problem happens to more than one game. Make sure the latest game patch is installed. Ensure the power supply meets the requirement. We have users that reported that beta drivers would provide solutions to the problem some users experienced. For beta drivers, please log on to: w ww.guru3d.com

after you install this software, open it and double click on "environment monitor wizard", run a game for one minute and then exit the game, check on the 3rd diagram if the power supply voltage ( 12v) goes off 1-3.

I also found out this from some research after I had issues with Tomb Raider game I installed, by going to the game support site for Tomb Raider PC games. I had updated my windows patches...my Tomb Raider started to produce everything in a block wood pattern...Lara as a chunk of wood is not attractive...LOL...anyway, it said that one of the updates from windows, a KB8..something or other is the cause of this issue so I found it and removed it and the game is great again. The site said that the windows updates can overwrite new files with old ones that are older than your software and you don't know it. That makes sense to me. It worked at any rate.

Sorry if I should not have posted the links but thought this may help someone else out too because I am not happy unless I am playing a game...LOL...I'm not an addict really!

By the way, GameMaster.....I'll take two Give a Damn 2.5 Professionals, do I get a discount for buying two???? I want change back too damn it....LOL....

I advise you to wait until Give a Damn 3.0 is out, which includes a new-improved GUI. The only downside is, it crashes your computer more often

Hi all again, well I followed the instructions and did what it said to do, blah blah blah...My screen went all nuts to where I only had what looked like primary colors that had dots all the way through them, so I went back to the site, poked around and found more driver updates for NVidia...GO FIGURE>>>>LOL...but since I am the Queen of downloads, it was all good..so I did it and everything went back to normal on my desktop...I still want to play my black and white game though, because i was feeling quite destructive and wanted to play God and feed some villagers to my tiger, hey....he was hungry! so..I popped it in and still..graphics were odd...but a bit better, villagers could not walk on the water any more..haha! So, I decided to try some of my dos games...worked beautifully, I am back in business eating dots and chomping ghosts...yayyyy...so I figured it must be a game glitch with black and white...went to Lion Head studios website...after some digging I found another site, I browse with several windows open, and it talked about the walking on water issue, and pointed me to a link on Lion Head site, so I downloaded a patch to fix the issue...yayyy I can destroy all the villages I want to now and feed them to my tiger and they can't play God, because that is my job...whoooo hooooo...Also, there is an issue with the xp system and a download from service pack 2 so be wary of that download because it creates havoc with dos games and some others not dos.

TO: GameMaster.EXE....I would like 5 of those 3.O give a damn programs, I want to send them to all my friends...because well...I give a damn...whooo a new GUI too????? Hot Damn! Is it point and click or fill in the blank???? More crashes too???? On second thought, I'll buy 6. Just because I want double the crashes...I'll run them all at the same time ;-). Many hugs to all and thank you for the ideas and help...I'll poke around on here from time to time to help where I can, because I give a damn...hahahahahaha...Enigma.

I've canceled Give a Damn 3.0 project to make way for the Give a Damn OS 1.0!!!

Sorry, the FBI cracked down on me. I'm not allowed to sell Give a Damn or any releated programs.
But now I've escaped the US and now I'm in Mexico working on Give a Damn OS 2.0 It should be finished in 2 years.
*sticks tongue out* Take that FBI!!! Uh-oh, here comes the Mexican Authorieties!!!

Geeee....you get something good and someone always has to be a party pooper and take it away....congrats on your escape to Mexico, just don't use a cell phone to make any calls, FBI has ways of tracking that...and I hope you are not near Tiajuana because I hear the prison food sucks there....may have to send you a care package with pizza...hide it in your armpits...LOL...

Yup...FBI tracked me down on a complaint I had the Dell kid whacked, but when they found out who bit the dust, the gave me a party and asked me to whack the pancake guy...you know..Mr. I like pancakes with butter.....all because they are into donuts. It's a sick world but I'm a happy person
