[OLLDDDD]] Unstickied, please visit

1) Download VDMsound from:
http://ntvdm.cjb.net/
And VDMlaunchpad from
http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net/files/V ... .0.1.1.zip

2) Install both VDMSound and VDMlaunchpad in the same directory. (e.g. C:\VDMS)

3) If you previously installed VDMS and are updating, install any updates into the same directory so the updates will overwrite old files and keep the most recent versions.

4) Restart your computer.

5) When your PC finished rebooting, using Windows Explorer go to your dosgames exe, bat or whatever you use to execute it. Right click on that file.

6) When you right click you should see "Run with VDMS" with a picture and one without. Use the one with the picture ONLY.

7) And run with default settings, or tweak VDMS a bit for that game.

8) You are now done :)

Hint: Also use VDMS to setup games! Run the game's setup file (setsnd.exe for example) with VDMS 1st to get that bit saved then run the executable with those settings.

Also, try using DOSBox:

Download from:
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1
(Select "Windows" ... unless of course you're not using windows :shifty: )

Install DOSBox.

Tweak the settings file (dosbox.conf) to change the cycles= line (under the "cpu" heading in the file) to be like:
cycles=10000
That means the games will go faster.

Also, add the following in the "[autoexec]" section at the bottom of dosbox.conf:
MOUNT C C:\where ever your game's location is
C:\
That will send you straight to that folder without any hassle of typing it again.

(If you also have other drives you want to use in DOS, also add MOUNT lines for those drives ... ex, "MOUNT D D:\")

Start up DOSBox. You'll get a normal DOS command prompt. You should then be able to execute programs just like in a normal DOS prompt.

Note: Not all games work in DOSBox. Check the compatibility list here:
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/comp_list.php?letter=a

I'm not too sure if this has been posted yet, but as all users of Windows XP know, you dont get the good ol' 640 x 480 screen resolution. This is especially a problem because most older dos games require that screen resolution to work. Here's how to get that screen size to work:

Start

All Programs

Accessories

Program Compatibility Wizard

Select this file. When the program opens go:

Next

I want to locate the program manually

Browse

Next

Windows 98

Next

and finally

Check off any nessecary boxes (256 colors, 640x480... etc)

This works for me, and i hope it also works for you.

Ok!

C :\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications. Choose "close" to rerminate the application. Is quite common error these days. Dont ask me why they delete themselves or something.

Anyway here are the files.

www.dosgames.com/~wally4000/autoconf.zip
extract
and put them into your system 32 directory

Nothing Further
