Anyone know of any good platform adventure type games?

Help locating old / Pre year 2000 games you used to play.

Anyone know of any good platform adventure type games?

Post by Mingy Jongo »

I'm not talking about games like Commander Keen and Jazz Jackrabbit, I mean games where most often there is one big world and you need to collect powerups and weapons ect to explore new areas. Like Metriod. The only DOS ones I've seen like that are Captain Comic 1 & 2. If there are any Windows ones please inform me of that too (and I've already beaten Eternal Daughter, if anyone suggests that). Thanks.

Ooooh, thanks for the suggestion, but I've played all of them and beaten Magicland and Yolkfolk (I'd like to beat Fantastic but it would take me forever). I'm looking for a game where more like items enhance and upgrade your character, not just like puzzle where you just have to figure out how to use the item and your character never changes.

Abuse mac only? You got to be kidding. It was originally a Dos game.

"Free Abuse" (a fan-made remake that uses public domain material) is listed on DOSGames.com:

Direct download:

As far as adventure platformers, I vaguely remember playing Zeliard, an old Game Arts game that was licensed by Sierra:

Theres also Sorcerian, which sounds more RPG-ish but I never played that one:

Oh, also ... Akuji the Demon (english version) is a damn fine Windows game ... not really a "one world" game 'cuz theres levels ... but its still quite fun :)

Thanks for some other games, emmzee, I also found another one that looks good called Inner Worlds, that I'm downloading right now. BTW in case anyone wonders, I got my special permission to play the full version of Abuse because I bought the original CD.

Halo was originally going to be a mac game... Microsoft bribed Bungie.

Well Inner Worlds is GREAT, I suggest everyone play it. I sent an email to emmzee suggesting him to put it on dosgames.com. It's been released as freeware by its developers, and is very good. It has a level selection type map like in Donkey Kong Country, and has lots of secrets and powerups.

It's an awesome freeware platformer.

Abuse IS freeware. It was freed after Crack Dot Com went bankrupt.
