Space Quest 6 Problem

I am having a problem getting past the lab in SQ6.

After I put the data card into the compost i get the following error:

Internal game error
Error 47: Not an object:$0
Script 64994/$f29

not that this will mean anything to anyone! Has anyone else encountered the same / similar issue?

I have a legal version, installed on a machine running Windows XP\

So please out me out here I am stick.

This is a very known problem, and there is a solution to it: a simple patch called sq6.zip and which let me get over exactly this data card scene, too.
