No sound in Doom

Post by GameMaster.EXE »

I downloaded Doom and started to play it but there wasn't any sound.
Also, who knows how to activate the cheats?

Have you tried running the setup program to configure sound?

Cheats are various and you type them while playing.

IDDQD, IDKFA, IDFA, IDSPISPOPD, IDCLEVxx are the useful ones to play with.

When you run SETUP.EXE, the first two options should be
"Choose Music Sound Card"
and
"Choose Sound FX Card"
That's where you need to configure your sound card. I ran the game using DOSBox, and chose these values:

"Choose Music Sound Card"
Sound Blaster / 220

"Choose Sound FX Card"
Sound Blaster / 220 / 7 / 1 / 6

And it works okay for me. You may also want to give jDoom a try to play it in Windows ... you get the 3D-rendered monsters etc instead of sprites, plus more control options, higher resolution, etc:

'course its not quite the same as playing the "classic" version! :)

As for cheats, there's a fairly complete list available here:

I've found the problem: I haven't been going to SETUP.EXE, I've been going to INSTALL.EXE! No wonder I couldn't configure the sound. What would be the best settings for a Win95 system?

As for the cheats, the cheat for getting a chainsaw (IDCHOPPERS) isn't working.

Then you should patch it up to v1.9.
