Civilization 2... not working on XP

I've read the post at the top and found what looked like the solution to my problem... only it didnt work.

My problem is the "Autoexec.nl" thing in the system32 folder. I tried copying it into the civ2 folder but that didnt work and my computer wouldn't let me follow the advice given on the xphints page...

Has anyone got an idea of how to help?

Oh yes I forgot

It used to work before but now for no apparant reason has stopped

Here, download this copy of AUTOEXEC.NT, backup the one you already have, then copy that one into the system32 folder. See if that helps.

Since AUTOEXEC.NT has no effect on DOSBox, DOSBox is worth a try.

Civ 2 is Windows game. Try win 95 emulation:

properties-->compatiblity-->flag execute program in compatiblity mode:-->select Windows 95

If there are problems try some display options.

Note: I don't really know what are their real English names 'cause we haven't English Win.

If Civilization 2 is a Windows game, why does it care about AUTOEXEC.NT? Strange...

Ok, I click on the civ 2 icon and it says this:

C:\WINDOWS\RESCUEZSYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

Alright, take that download file I mentioned earlier, make a new folder called RESCUEZSYSTEM32 if it's not there already, then copy my AUTOEXEC.NT file there instead of the normal System32 folder.

Maybe he has "Advanced Civilization", and that is a pure dos game, than he better give dosbox or so a shot.
