Alone in the dark with xp home edition

Post by Thunderchick01 »

Hello, I am new here and before I registered I found a lot of help finding a game from 1992. Wanted to say thanks and now to the point. I just bought alone in the dark 1 and I have been on my computer for 6 hours trying to get this to work with my xp home edition. I had to add microsoft antispyware to our computer because I had problems with some deleted files and the page which will explain what I mean is http://windowsxp.mvps.org/16bit.htm. Anyways the 3 missing files are on the computer now and the game is loaded to my computer, however the game will not bring me to the start of the game. All files dowloaded correctly and I am worn out and have no more options. I read some of the topics that are posted, but none seem relevant to my situation. Nothing pops up and says there is anything wrong, nothing happens at all. If someone has any ideas, please help!!

still trying to get this to work

I have really messed some stuff up! I loaded dosbox and everytime I type mount a a:/games, it says directory a:/games does not exist. I did delete the game so I could start from scratch and I wasnt for sure if I should download the game on doxbox. Now I figured that I should go ahead and use command prompt to dowload the game because maybe that is why there is no a directory. But it says I need to format the disk. Do I format a game disk?

I doubt this will work buuut- try typing- instead of =mount a a/games= try this
=mount a a:\games= Sometimes its the simple teeny little things that sort this stuff out. :)

Unzip the whole thing to a folder,
can be : x:\games\aitd
run dosbox , on the prompt mount the games folder as c in dosbox
mount c x:/games<enter>
type:
c:<enter>
type
cd aitd<enter>
type:
install<enter>
set your prefs here
to play:
run dosbox , mount your games folder as c , cd to aitd ,
type the command to run the game , have forgot what it is , something as aitd...?somebody ?Try it out...

Alter the X to match your drive you use to store your games ( c... d.. .E.. .F.... whatever )
